Tropic Skincare describes itself as a direct selling beauty business: Ambassadors earn 25% to 35% commission on their own sales, and an optional group of Leaders earn extra bonuses for mentoring a team. Because a team tier exists, it has the structure the FTC calls multi-level marketing, though Tropic says no one is paid for signing people up and most Ambassadors only sell.
Tropic's founder, Susie Ma, started the business at 15 to help her mum pay the bills, and the company now says it has over 20,000 Ambassadors and millions of customers. If you've been invited to a Pamper or asked to join, the label matters less than the mechanics: what you pay, how you earn, and who earns from whom. Here's what Tropic's own pages say, set against the regulators' definitions.
How Tropic Ambassadors earn
Tropic's FAQ says Ambassadors earn 25% to 35% commission on every sale, and that extra commission is based only on personal sales. Customers buy through an Ambassador's personal shop link or at a Pamper event, and products are delivered direct from Tropic's kitchen in Surrey. Ambassadors aren't allowed to hold stock, which removes one of the classic MLM traps of garages full of unsold product.

| Refund | Return the kit within 90 days for a full refund |
| Commission | 25% to 35% on sales, rising with personal sales only |
| Ongoing costs | None, with no targets or minimum sales |
| Staying active | Place an order of £1+ once every six months |
| Stock | Ambassadors aren't permitted to hold stock |
The Leader tier: where the multi-level part sits
Tropic says some Ambassadors choose to mentor others. Its FAQ is specific: there's no financial reward for introducing new Ambassadors, but those who help others grow can qualify for leadership bonuses paid directly by Tropic, without reducing their team's earnings. The FAQ says around 3.5% choose to grow a team and receive bonus commissions and title promotions.
Here's the detail most people miss. Tropic's Become an Ambassador page puts the figure differently, saying a smaller group, around 10%, go a step further and support other Ambassadors as Leaders. Both numbers come from Tropic's own pages. If you're being recruited by a Leader, ask which figure is current and what share of Ambassadors earn leadership bonuses.
Does Tropic publish an income disclosure?
No. Tropic doesn't publish an income disclosure statement on its site as of October 2026. What it does publish is survey data: its FAQ cites a 2023 Ambassador census of 3,875 respondents, in which 85% said they were satisfied or very satisfied, 82% would recommend it, and 71% spend fewer than five hours a week on the business. It also says 85% are in other employment.
Satisfaction isn't income. A census tells you how people feel; an income disclosure tells you what they were paid, usually as an average and median across everyone. Without one, you can't see what a typical Ambassador earns after the Starter Kit and their own costs.

How Tropic compares with the regulators' definitions
The FTC says MLMs typically pay two ways: on your own sales to retail customers, and on commissions tied to recruits' purchases and sales. It adds a clear test: a business that isn't a pyramid scheme will pay you on retail sales without you having to recruit. Tropic's model passes that first test on its own description, since every Ambassador earns from personal sales and introductions aren't paid.
In UK law, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 bans pyramid promotional schemes, defined as schemes where you pay for the chance of compensation derived primarily from bringing in other consumers, rather than from supplying or using products. Tropic's own FAQ says it isn't a pyramid scheme and that rewards are rooted in product sharing, not recruitment. I can't rule on that; what I can tell you is which questions test it. My explainer on how MLM differs from pyramid marketing goes deeper.

Five things to check before you buy the kit
- Who are your first ten customers? Commission of 25% means you'll need regular sales to clear the £198 kit.
- Will you use the 90-day refund window? Diary the date the day your kit arrives.
- What's the Leader paid on? Ask how leadership bonuses are calculated and whether your sales count towards them.
- What will Pampers cost you? Travel, samples and time all come out of your commission.
- How will you handle tax? Commission is self-employed income in the UK, so register and keep records.

My verdict
Tropic has designed out several of the worst MLM features: no stock, no monthly fee, a refundable kit and no pay for signing people up. That's a real point in its favour. It still has a team tier, it still asks new sellers to buy a kit, and it doesn't publish what Ambassadors earn. If you love the products and have people who'll buy them, it can be a tidy side income. Just judge it on your own sales, not on the stage stories.
