Snapchat Spectacles: SPECS AR Glasses, Sizes, Pre-Orders and Returns

Snapchat Spectacles are Snap's smart glasses, and the current model is SPECS, a pair of AR glasses that put Lenses and apps over the world in front of you. As of October 2026, Snap is taking pre-orders in the US, the UK and France, with a refundable deposit to reserve a pair.

Spectacles is the name Snap uses for its glasses, and SPECS is the current AR model. Snap describes them as bringing computing into the world around you, so you can learn, work and play while staying present.

Here's what Snap says about the hardware, the sizes and the pre-order process, from the official SPECS site, read in October 2026.

What SPECS AR glasses can do

Snap's site shows the kinds of Lens experiences built for SPECS:

  • A large virtual screen for watching shows and games wherever you are.
  • Heads-up directions and tips as you move around a space.
  • A portable digital whiteboard for sketching ideas and working with others.
  • Entertainment Lenses, including one for the new Harry Potter HBO series and one built around the NBA.

These are Lenses, the same building blocks Snapchat uses on your phone. Developers create them in Snap's Lens Studio, which Snap says supports shared experiences on Spectacles through Connected Lenses and its Sync Framework.

SPECS hardware: what Snap states

FeatureDetail from Snap
DisplaySee-through waveguide with a 51 degree field of view, which Snap compares to a 115-inch cinema screen about ten feet away
AudioCustom stereo speakers in the temples for open-ear sound
Microphones6 high-SNR MEMS microphones, for calls and cutting through background noise
FrameSwiss TR90 polymer, built to be light and durable
Weight132 grams at 47mm, 136 grams at 52mm
Colour range on screenSnap's streaming Lens advertises 16 million colours

How to pick the right size

SPECS come in two sizes: Narrow Fit at 47mm and Wide Fit at 52mm. They ship with swappable nose pads to help with fit.

Snap asks you to do its Virtual Try-On before ordering, using a supported iPhone, which means an iPhone XS or later. If you don't have one but you already wear glasses, Snap suggests checking the frame size on your current pair as a starting point. If you're near Los Angeles, Snap has run a SPECS First Look pop-up at Westfield Century City from 2 October for a guided, hands-on preview.

How SPECS pre-orders work

  1. Check you're in a pre-order country: the US, the UK or France. Elsewhere, join the waitlist.
  2. Add up to five devices to your cart.
  3. Choose your size for each pair.
  4. Pay the refundable deposit to reserve them. Snap says the deposit isn't an order confirmation.
  5. Wait for Snap's updates. Closer to the shipping window, it'll ask you to complete the order by paying the remaining balance.

If you can't see the option to add SPECS to your cart, Snap says they aren't available for pre-order in your country yet.

Who SPECS are for right now

Snap's own examples tell you who it has in mind: people who want a big screen without carrying one, people who need directions while their hands are busy, and people who brainstorm with others. The microphones and speakers are pitched at calls, with Snap saying the six microphones cut through background noise so you sound clear.

If you mainly want to film what you see for Snapchat, your phone still does that. SPECS make sense if the Lens experiences themselves appeal, or if you're a developer or brand who wants to build for AR glasses early, using Lens Studio.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Questions to ask before you reserve

  1. Is your country on the list? Today that's the US, the UK and France.
  2. Have you done the Virtual Try-On, or checked your current frame size?
  3. Are you happy with a deposit now and the balance later, with no final figure until Snap asks for it?
  4. Do the Lens experiences on Snap's site match how you'd use them?

Cancelling, returns and warranty

  • You can cancel your pre-order any time before the order is completed and get a full refund of your deposit by contacting SPECS support.
  • Once you have them, you can return SPECS for a refund within 14 days of receipt, under Snap's return policy.
  • They're covered by a one-year limited warranty for defects in materials and workmanship.

Snap's site doesn't state the full price or the deposit amount in the pages I read, so I haven't quoted one here. Check the cart before you commit, and keep the confirmation emails, because the deposit and the final balance are separate payments.

SPECS and your Snapchat account

The Lenses on SPECS come from the same creative world as the Lenses on your phone. If you mostly use Lenses inside the Snapchat app, my guide on how to use Snapchat filters and Lenses covers the basics. If you're a business wondering where AR fits, my look at Snapchat's marketing strategy shows how Snap has built its brand around the camera.

My verdict

SPECS are pitched as glasses you'd wear to do something: watch, navigate, sketch and call. The details Snap publishes are reassuring for a first-wave product: two sizes, a refundable deposit you can cancel, 14 days to return them and a year's warranty. If you're curious, do the Virtual Try-On, reserve with the deposit and decide when Snap tells you the remaining balance. That's a low-risk way to keep your place.
