DocuSign Pricing: Personal, Standard and Business Pro Explained

As of October 2026, Docusign's eSignature plans are Personal at $11 a month, Standard at $30 per user a month and Business Pro at $45 per user a month, on annual plans billed monthly. That's an annual commitment of $132 for Personal, $360 per user for Standard and $540 per user for Business Pro, and tax may apply.

Docusign is the e-signature tool most clients recognise, which is why so many freelancers and small agencies stick with it. The prices are clear, but the real limits sit in two places most people skip: how many envelopes you can send and what the annual billed monthly option commits you to.

Envelopes: the limit that decides your plan

Docusign measures usage in envelopes. An envelope is one electronic record with one or more documents sent for signature, and it counts once against your allowance however many documents, fields or signers it contains.

  • Personal includes five envelopes every month.
  • Standard and Business Pro annual plans include up to 100 envelopes per user per year.
  • Monthly versions of Standard and Business Pro include up to 10 envelopes per user per month.
  • An envelope counts once it's sent, whether or not it's signed or completed.
  • Envelopes sent through PowerForms count towards the allowance too.

If you go over, Docusign bills each extra envelope at a set per-envelope rate, or you can pre-purchase envelopes from the Plans and Billing page in your account.

For a freelancer sending a handful of proposals a month, Personal's five envelopes can run out fast. Count how many agreements you sent last month before choosing. Remember that a contract you send, then void and resend with a correction, uses two envelopes, so leave some headroom for mistakes and changes of mind.

What annual billed monthly really means

This is the detail worth reading twice. Docusign's FAQ says that with the annual billed monthly option you sign up for a full year of service but pay in monthly instalments, which gets you its best annual pricing. You can cancel within 30 days of purchase without penalty. After 30 days, you'll be required to pay the remaining balance of the year, including taxes and any overage.

Docusign also offers a refund within 30 days for annual plans bought on its website, and says monthly subscriptions can be cancelled at any time without being charged for the next month.

Add-ons and what they cost

Standard and Business Pro can add extras. Sending signature requests by SMS starts at $0.36 per delivery, and verifying a recipient's identity starts at $2.40 per ID verification attempt, with tax on top. Add-ons can't be bought without a base plan.

Docusign IAM: the plans above eSignature

Docusign also sells Intelligent Agreement Management, or IAM. Its FAQ describes IAM as including more than the eSignature plans: workflows you build without code using Docusign Workflow Builder, and a central store for signed agreements called Docusign Agreement Manager, which uses Docusign's AI to help you manage and analyse documents. IAM Core comes in Standard, Professional and Enterprise plans, and there are versions for sales and customer experience teams.

For most small businesses, IAM is more than you need. It starts to make sense when you're storing hundreds of signed contracts and need to search and report on them, not just get them signed.

For a simple signature image rather than a signing workflow, see our guide to signature generators.

Do signers need to pay?

No. Docusign says recipients don't need an account to sign. They get an email, review the document, adopt a signature and complete it without signing up. Only the sender needs a plan.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

That's one reason it suits client work: you're not asking a customer to create yet another login just to agree to your terms. Docusign says the signing email comes from its own address, so it's worth telling a new client to look out for it, especially if their inbox filters are strict.

How to choose a Docusign plan

  1. Count the agreements you send in a typical month.
  2. Under five a month and working alone: Personal.
  3. A team that shares templates and needs more envelopes: Standard.
  4. If you want advanced automation, Business Pro.
  5. Only pick annual billed monthly if you're sure you'll use it for the full year.
  6. Check whether the free Docusign options cover you before paying.

My verdict

For a sole trader sending a few contracts a month, Docusign Personal at $11 a month is fine, but watch the five-envelope limit. For a small team, Standard at $30 per user a month is the plan most people need. The trap is the annual billed monthly option: it looks like a monthly subscription, yet after 30 days you owe the rest of the year. If your volume is unpredictable, pay monthly, even though it costs a little more.
