How to Make a Playlist on TikTok (and Fix Missing Ones)

To make a playlist on TikTok, open Profile, tap the Menu, go to TikTok Studio, then Playlist under More tools, and tap Create playlist. After your first one, use Manage playlists in your posts tab. Playlists only show to others if they hold at least one public post, and they aren't available to everyone yet.

Playlists turn your TikTok profile from a pile of videos into something people can binge. A recipe series, a tutorial run, a travel trip in order: viewers tap the playlist and watch the posts one after another. TikTok explains how to set them up, but a few rules decide whether yours are visible at all.

How to make your first TikTok playlist

  1. In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
  2. Tap the Menu button at the top, then choose TikTok Studio.
  3. Under More tools, tap Playlist.
  4. Tap Create playlist.
  5. Follow the steps to name it and add posts.

Once you've made your first playlist, you can create more from the Manage playlists button in the posts tab on your profile, or through TikTok Studio.

How to add videos to a playlist

From a video you've already posted:

  1. Go to the video.
  2. Tap More options.
  3. Tap Add to playlist and choose the playlist.

You can also add a post before you publish it. On the post screen, tap More options, then Add to playlist, and pick a playlist or make a new one. TikTok notes you need at least one playlist already, or you won't see the option.

The rules that catch people out

RuleWhat it means
A post can only be in one playlistRemove it from one before adding it to another
Playlists need a public post to be seenA playlist of private videos is invisible to others
Private accounts hide playlistsYou can still manage them, but nobody else sees them
Newest addition plays firstReorder if you want the series to play in order
Not available to everyoneNo option in your posts tab means it hasn't reached you yet

The order rule is the easiest to miss. TikTok says the post most recently added to a playlist plays first unless you change the order. If you built a step-by-step series by adding the final video last, it'll play first. Fix it by reordering.

How to edit, reorder or delete a playlist

  • Reorder: open the playlist from Manage playlists, then press and hold a post and drag it to its new spot.
  • Add or remove posts: tap Add posts or Remove posts and choose the videos.
  • Rename: tap Edit next to the playlist name, type the new name and tap Done.
  • Delete: tap the playlist in your posts tab, tap More options, then Delete playlist and confirm.

Deleting a playlist doesn't delete the posts in it. Your videos stay on your profile, just no longer grouped.

Why can't I make a playlist on TikTok?

  • Playlists haven't reached your account. TikTok says they aren't available to everyone. If the option isn't in your posts tab, it isn't available to you yet.
  • Your videos are private. A playlist needs at least one public post to be visible.
  • Your account is private. Playlists won't show to anyone else.
  • Old app version. Update TikTok and check TikTok Studio again.

Playlist ideas that keep viewers watching

  • Series: part one, two and three of a story, in order.
  • How-tos: group every tutorial on one topic.
  • Best of: your most popular videos in one place for new followers.
  • Topics: recipes, outfits, workouts or product demos, each in their own playlist.

For businesses, playlists are a simple way to organise product videos, FAQs and customer stories so visitors find what they need without scrolling. Pair them with a pinned comment that points people to the right series. Here's how to pin a comment on TikTok, and if you want to tag collaborators in your series, see how to tag someone on TikTok.

Naming playlists so people tap them

  • Be specific. 'Easy weeknight dinners' beats 'Recipes'.
  • Use the words people search for. If viewers would search 'beginner workouts', use that phrase.
  • Number series. If order matters, say so in the name, like 'Kitchen makeover, start here'.
  • Keep it short. Long names get cut off on small screens.

A clear name tells a new visitor exactly what they'll get, which is the whole point of a playlist. Review your playlists every so often, rename any that have drifted from their original theme, and remove posts that no longer fit.

Do playlists help your views?

TikTok describes playlists as a way to let viewers watch related posts in a sequence. That's the real benefit: someone who enjoys one video in a series can carry straight on to the next, instead of hunting through your profile. For creators with a back catalogue of tutorials or episodes, it can turn one view into several. Keep each playlist focused, so the next video always feels like a natural continuation.

My verdict

TikTok playlists are worth setting up if you post in themes or series. Create your first one through TikTok Studio, keep at least one public post in each, and reorder them, because the newest addition plays first. If the option is missing, it simply hasn't reached your account yet.
