Best Insurance Agency Management Software (2026)

Insurance agency management software, or an AMS, holds your clients, policies, renewals, documents and agency accounting, and connects to carriers for downloads and rating. The right one depends on your size, your lines of business and how much you want built in. Nine systems follow in no particular order.

Your AMS is the system the whole agency lives in. Every quote, renewal, certificate and commission runs through it, so a clunky one slows down every person in the office, every day.

The nine systems below are listed alphabetically and in no particular order, from established platforms used by large agencies to newer cloud systems and sales suites for growing teams. Each description comes from the vendor's own site, re-checked this week. For ideas on using AI in your marketing, see my guide to AI content creation for insurance brokers.

Insurance agency management systems compared

In the free plan column, Yes means the tool's own site describes free use or a free plan, Trial only means a time-limited trial and No means neither is stated on the pages we read. Most insurance software vendors work through demos.

Licensing across states and why your AMS should track it

The NAIC says that historically each state had its own licensing requirements, and a producer licensed in one state generally had to meet separate nonresident licensing requirements to sell, solicit or negotiate insurance in other states.

What that means for you: if your agency writes business in several states, you need to know which producer is licensed where and when each licence renews. Check whether the AMS tracks producer licences by state or connects to a tool that does.

Full AMS, rating tool or sales suite?

A full AMS covers clients, policies, servicing, documents and accounting. Comparative raters quote personal lines across carriers quickly. Sales suites add pipelines, onboarding and retention automation that many older systems lack.

Work with me

Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Most agencies need the AMS first and add rating and sales tools that connect to it. Check carrier downloads and integrations before anything else, because that's where the time savings come from.

Questions to ask in an AMS demo

  1. Which carriers download policies and commissions directly?
  2. How are renewals, endorsements and certificates handled?
  3. Can we track producer licences and appointments?
  4. What does agency accounting look like, and who reconciles it?
  5. How is data moved from our current system?
  6. What training and support do we get after go-live?

Warning signs during an AMS switch

  • Missing carrier downloads. Retyping policies wipes out the time savings.
  • Messy accounting migration. Reconcile before and after the move.
  • No owner for the project. One person must drive the switch.
  • Training squeezed in. Staff need time to learn, not just a login.

Using your AMS to keep clients

Retention is where agencies win or lose. Use renewal reports to contact clients well before their date, review coverage and ask if anything's changed. A short, timely call often keeps a policy that would otherwise drift to a quick online quote elsewhere at the last minute.

Data your agency should keep clean

Good reports need tidy data. Agree how names, addresses and policy types are entered, and check a sample each month. It's dull work, but it's what makes renewal lists, commission checks and carrier conversations reliable.

Getting producers to use the AMS

Producers often keep notes in their heads or their inboxes, and that's where renewals get missed. Make it easy: show them how logging a call takes seconds, and that it'll protect their commissions when someone else covers their book. Once they see it saves them chasing, they'll use it without being nagged.

Do you make insurance agency management software? Tool makers can ask to be considered for a featured place on this list.

My plain advice on insurance agency management software

Choose for your service team, not just your producers. The people handling endorsements, certificates and renewals use the AMS all day, so let them test it before you sign.

Then think about growth. A system that handles your current book well but can't support more producers, more states or more lines will need replacing just when you're busiest. To win more of the right clients, see my guide to using AI for customer reviews.

Frequently asked questions

What is insurance agency management software?

It's the system an agency uses to manage clients, policies, renewals, documents, commissions and accounting.

Is there free insurance agency management software?

One sales suite on this list invites you to start for free, and several systems offer free trials.

What's the difference between an AMS and an insurance CRM?

An AMS manages policies, servicing and accounting; a CRM focuses on leads, pipelines and client communication.

Do agents need to be licensed in each state?

The NAIC says producers generally had to meet nonresident licensing requirements to sell in other states.

How long does it take to switch AMS?

It depends on your data and size, so plan migration, carrier connections and training before go-live.

Which AMS suits a small independent agency?

Small agencies often prefer cloud systems with simple setup, strong support and good carrier downloads.
