Your dashboard is the insights and tools hub Instagram gives public personal accounts. You'll find it on your profile, or under Your insights and tools in Settings and activity. It shows a summary of how your content and account performed over the last 30 days. Professional accounts get the professional dashboard instead, with extra monetisation and ad tools.
A lot of people assume you need a business or creator account to see any numbers on Instagram. You don't. Instagram's help centre says dashboards are available to all public accounts. Personal accounts just get a different version, called Your dashboard.
Here's how to find it, what's inside, how it differs from the professional dashboard, and the settings that decide whether you can see it at all.
Your dashboard vs the professional dashboard
| Your dashboard | Professional dashboard | |
|---|---|---|
| Who gets it | Public personal accounts | Business and Creator accounts |
| Where it sits | Under Your insights and tools | Under For professionals |
| Performance summary | Yes, last 30 days, with See all insights | Yes, last 30 days, with See all insights |
| Monetisation insights | No | Yes |
| Creator and business tools | No | Subscriptions, branded content, partnership ads, payouts, Ad tools |
| Can the account be private | Must be public to use it | Professional accounts can't be private |
Instagram adds that features in either dashboard can vary by account type, region and eligibility, so two people on personal accounts may not see exactly the same tools.
How to find Your dashboard
- Make sure your account is public. A private personal account doesn't get Your dashboard.
- Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right.
- Tap Your dashboard.
- Can't see it on your profile? Tap More to open Settings and activity, then tap Your dashboard below Your insights and tools.
Instagram's help page says you can reach dashboards from the app or from instagram.com, though the app is where the full detail lives.
What Your dashboard shows
Instagram describes three jobs for the dashboard: tracking performance, keeping you informed, and pointing you to tools. In practice that means:
- Key insights and trends on your content and account, including reach, engagement and audience demographics.
- A summary of your last 30 days, with See all insights for the detailed numbers.
- Recommendations for new features as they become available to you.
- Educational tips and best practices from Instagram.
Meta's insights guide adds that the overview covers views, interactions, new followers and content you shared, and that you can pick a preset or custom timeframe within the past 90 days. Tap the small (i) in the top right of any insight to see Instagram's definition of it.
What the main numbers mean
| Insight | Meta's definition |
|---|---|
| Views | The number of times your content was played or displayed, across reels, posts, stories and live videos |
| Viewers | Unique accounts that saw your content on screen at least once, with top countries, cities, age ranges and gender |
| Interactions | Actions people took, such as likes, comments, saves and shares |
| Accounts engaged | Unique accounts that interacted with your content |
| Content you shared | How many stories, reels and posts you published in the timeframe |
Tap under any content type in Content you shared and you'll reach your content library, where you can filter everything you've posted by media type, reach, interactions and timeframe. That's the quickest way to find your best reel of the last three months without scrolling your grid.
The thresholds that hide some numbers
If parts of your dashboard look empty, it's usually one of these rules rather than a fault:
- Follower trends, such as growth, top locations, age range and most active times, appear once you have at least 100 followers.
- Audience demographics need you to reach or engage over 100 accounts, and work on preset timeframes. If the last 7 days shows nothing, try last 30 days or last 90 days.
- Views is being introduced gradually and may not be available to you yet.
- Reel insights only exist for reels posted on or after 14 May 2021, and stay viewable for up to two years after posting.
For small accounts the 100 threshold is the big one. Under it, you'll see your content numbers but not much about who your audience is.
Should you switch to a professional account?
Your dashboard is enough if you just want to know how your posts and reels are doing. Switch to a professional account if you want monetisation insights, partnership ads, payouts or Ad tools, or if you run a business and want a Contact button on your profile.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
There are two trade-offs Instagram spells out. Professional accounts can't be set to private, and any pending follow requests are accepted automatically when you go public. If you link a Facebook Page, you can only share Instagram posts to Facebook through that Page. You can switch back to personal whenever you like.
Getting more out of it
Open Your dashboard once a week, look at your last 30 days, and note the one post that did best and the one that did worst. That habit beats checking every post an hour after it goes up. For reels in particular, my guide to seeing your Reels performance history shows how to compare older reels, and average watch time is the number I'd look at first.
If you're wondering whether your numbers are any good, comparing yourself with huge accounts won't help. My benchmarks for small creators give a fairer picture.
My take
Your dashboard is one of Instagram's most overlooked features. It gives personal accounts real insight without changing anything about how your profile works, provided it's public. Use it to learn what your audience responds to, and only move to a professional account when you need the tools that come with it.
