Remitly to GCash: How It Works and What the Receiver Needs

To send from Remitly to GCash, sign up with Remitly, choose the Philippines, enter the amount and delivery speed, pick GCash as the delivery option and add the receiver's GCash details. The receiver needs a GCash account whose name and mobile number match exactly what you enter. Remitly shows the fee and exchange rate before you pay.

If you're a Filipino working abroad, or a client paying a freelancer in the Philippines, Remitly is one of GCash's official remittance partners. The process is simple, but there's one rule that stops more transfers than anything else, and it's on the receiver's side. Here's what Remitly's own page and GCash's Help Center say.

How to send from Remitly to GCash

  1. Register with Remitly on its website or app.
  2. Select the Philippines, then the amount and delivery speed.
  3. Choose GCash as the delivery option.
  4. Enter the receiver's GCash details: name and account number.
  5. Pay, and Remitly sends it on its way.

Remitly says the fee depends on how much you send, how you pay and the delivery speed you choose, and it shows the fee and exchange rate before you send. It may also ask for extra documents depending on the amount, or if it can't verify your identity.

The rule that stops transfers: the name has to match

GCash says plainly that the receiver's name and number must match their GCash account. Not a nickname, not a married name if GCash still has the maiden name, not a missing middle initial. If you're sending to family, ask them to open GCash and read out their name exactly as it appears in their profile before you set up the transfer.

What the receiver needs

  • A GCash account on a registered Philippine number.
  • A Fully Verified GCash account. GCash's remittance claim guide is written for Fully Verified accounts, so get verified before the first transfer.
  • Room in their wallet limits. If a large transfer won't land, the receiver should check Profile, then Profile Limits in GCash.

Does Remitly work from every country?

Not everywhere. GCash says its remittance services vary by country, and it publishes a list of official partners by country. Remitly is on that list, but you should still check that the GCash option appears in the Remitly app for your sending country. If you don't see GCash as a delivery option, Remitly may offer bank deposit instead.

Only use official partners

GCash asks customers to transact only with its official remittance partners. If someone messages you offering a cheaper way to load a relative's GCash from abroad through their personal account, walk away. GCash also says it'll never send you links by SMS or email or ask for your MPIN or OTP.

Remitly to GCash at a glance

QuestionAnswer
Who starts the transfer? The sender, in the Remitly app or website
What does the receiver enter?Nothing extra for a wallet delivery, just a matching GCash account
Where do I see the fee?On Remitly's screen before you pay
What blocks it most often?A name or number that doesn't match the GCash account
Is Remitly an official GCash partner?Yes, it's on GCash's official partner list

If you're a freelancer getting paid by clients

Remitly works for family support, but freelancers may prefer GCash Request Payment. GCash says it lets you ask, track and receive funds from clients abroad, either to a Virtual US Account or to your wallet through supported partners. You'll need to be Fully Verified, and you can't edit a request once it's submitted. More on getting paid from abroad in this guide to freelancing in the Philippines, and whether Remitly is legit.

A checklist for the sender

  1. Ask the receiver for their name exactly as shown in their GCash profile, and their GCash mobile number.
  2. Confirm they're Fully Verified and that their wallet limit can take the amount.
  3. In Remitly, check that GCash shows as a delivery option for your country.
  4. Compare the fee and exchange rate on Remitly's screen before you pay, as they depend on the amount, payment method and speed.
  5. Keep your Remitly receipt and transfer reference until the receiver confirms it's arrived.

A checklist for the receiver

  • Keep your GCash name matching your government ID. Changing it later can cause mismatches.
  • Don't share your MPIN or OTP with the sender or anyone helping. A legitimate remittance never needs them.
  • If nothing arrives, the sender contacts Remitly first, because the transfer is on their account.

Why does all this matter so much? Because a remittance that doesn't land isn't lost, but it's stuck, and fixing it means the sender talking to Remitly, sometimes across time zones, while the family waits. Five minutes of checking names and limits before the first transfer saves days afterwards. Once the first one works, the next ones usually go through without a hitch, as long as nobody changes their GCash name or number.

My advice

Before the first transfer, get the receiver to screenshot their GCash name and confirm they're Fully Verified. Those two checks prevent almost every stuck Remitly to GCash transfer.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Remitly to GCash take?

It depends on the delivery speed you choose in Remitly. Remitly says delivery times are guaranteed, or it refunds your fees.

What details do I need to send to GCash?

The receiver's name and GCash account details, exactly as registered in GCash.

Does the receiver need to be verified?

Yes. GCash's guide to claiming overseas remittances is for Fully Verified accounts, and verification also raises wallet limits.

Why didn't my Remitly transfer reach GCash?

The most common reason is a name or number that doesn't match the GCash account. Wallet limits are another. Contact Remitly with your transfer details.

Can I send to GCash from any country with Remitly?

Not always. GCash says services vary by country. Check that GCash appears as a delivery option in Remitly for your country.

Can Remitly ask me for documents?

Yes. Remitly says it may ask for extra documentation depending on how much you send, or if it can't verify your identity.

Does the receiver need to share their MPIN or OTP?

Never. A remittance to GCash only needs the receiver's name and GCash number. Anyone asking for an MPIN or OTP is trying to scam them.
