How to Cancel an Instagram Subscription (All 3 Types)

To cancel an Instagram subscription, first work out which one you're paying for. A creator subscription is cancelled from the creator's profile or the Subscriptions tab in Settings, which hands you to Apple or Google. Meta Verified and the no-ads plan are cancelled in Accounts Center, ideally at least 24 hours before your next payment.

'Instagram subscription' covers three different things, and the cancel button lives in a different place for each. That's why so many people search for it, find a guide, and still can't see the option: they're looking in the right place for the wrong subscription.

Which Instagram subscription are you paying for?

TypeWhat you getWhere it's cancelled
Creator subscriptionSubscriber-only content from one creator and a subscriber badgeCreator's profile or Settings, Subscriptions, then Apple or Google
Meta VerifiedA verified badge and support for your own accountAccounts Center (or Apple / Google if bought there)
Use Instagram without adsNo ads, European Region and UK onlyAccounts Center, on the same device type you signed up on

Check your bank or app store receipt if you're not sure. Creator subscriptions are billed through the App Store or Google Play; Meta Verified can be billed by Meta directly or through the app stores.

Cancel a subscription to a creator

  1. Open Instagram and go to the creator's profile, or open Settings and find Subscriptions.
  2. Choose the subscription you want to end.
  3. Instagram passes you to your App Store or Google Play subscription page.
  4. Cancel it there.

Instagram's fan terms say both routes connect you to the subscription management of the platform you paid through, and you can also cancel directly in the App Store or Google Play without opening Instagram. Some providers want you to cancel 24 hours before the current period ends, otherwise it renews for another month.

One catch on refunds: when you subscribe, you agree to get access straight away and waive the usual right to change your mind for a refund in a cooling-off period. Cancelling stops the next charge; it doesn't refund the current one.

Cancel Meta Verified

Meta Verified is billed automatically and stays active until the end of your billing cycle after you cancel. To avoid another charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the next payment date. Where you cancel depends on where you bought it:

  • Bought from Meta on a computer: cancel on a computer. You can't cancel it from a phone.
  • Bought through Apple: cancel on your iPhone or iPad in Meta account settings inside the Instagram or Facebook app.
  • Bought through Google: cancel in Google Play, signed in with the same Google account.

Meta doesn't offer refunds or partial credits on cancelled Meta Verified plans, and every profile on the plan loses its verified status when the cycle ends. If you only want to drop one profile, edit your subscribed profiles instead of cancelling the lot.

Cancel the no-ads subscription (Europe and UK)

The paid option to use Instagram without ads is only offered in the European Region and the United Kingdom. It's charged monthly unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the next payment. The device rule matters here: if you signed up on an iPhone, you must cancel on an iPhone, and the same for Android, because of Apple and Google's policies. If you've already cancelled in your Apple or Google settings, finish the job in Ad preferences in Accounts Center.

Things that don't cancel anything

  • Signing out of Instagram.
  • Deleting the Instagram or Facebook app from your phone.
  • Unfollowing the creator.

Meta says it plainly for Meta Verified: signing out or deleting the apps won't cancel your subscription. The same logic applies to creator subscriptions, which live with Apple or Google. And if you delete your Instagram account while subscribed, you lose access to the content but the app store subscription still needs cancelling.

Cancel through Apple or Google directly

Because creator subscriptions are billed by the app store, you can skip Instagram altogether. On an iPhone, open your Apple Account settings and go to Subscriptions; on Android, open Google Play, tap your profile and choose Payments and subscriptions. Find the Instagram creator subscription and cancel it there. This is also the fix when the creator's profile is gone or the Subscriptions tab won't load, because the billing sits with Apple or Google either way. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID or Google account you paid with, or the subscription won't show.

If the creator removed you

If a creator, or Instagram, removes you as a subscriber, your subscription is cancelled. Instagram notes that a refund isn't processed automatically in that case, so you'd need to request one through the platform you paid with.

My verdict

Name the subscription first, then cancel where it was bought: creator subscriptions through Apple or Google, Meta Verified and the no-ads plan in Accounts Center on the right device. Do it at least 24 hours before renewal and keep the confirmation. If you're tidying up your account more widely, logging out of Instagram on all devices is a sensible next step, though as above, it won't stop a payment. If you're a creator and want to understand the other side of subscriptions, how to start getting paid on Instagram covers it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I cancel a subscription to a creator on Instagram?

Go to the creator's profile or Settings, Subscriptions, and Instagram will pass you to the App Store or Google Play to cancel.

Will I get a refund if I cancel an Instagram subscription?

Usually not for the current period. Creator subscriptions waive the cooling-off refund right, and Meta Verified has no refunds.

How do I cancel Meta Verified on Instagram?

Cancel where you bought it: on a computer through Meta, in the app's Meta account settings on iPhone if bought via Apple, or in Google Play.

Does deleting Instagram cancel my subscription?

No. Deleting the app or signing out doesn't stop billing.

When should I cancel to avoid another charge?

At least 24 hours before your next payment date.
