Instagram pays once a month, around the 21st, for what you earned in the previous month. Bonus earnings are split: around the 7th and the 21st. You're only paid once your balance clears the minimum, which is 5 US dollars in the US and 25 US dollars elsewhere (100 by wire).
The short version: there's a lag of roughly three weeks between the end of a month and the money arriving. If you earned through January, look for it around February 21. Then add your bank's own processing time on top, which is where most of the 'Instagram hasn't paid me' worry comes from.
Instagram's payout calendar
| What you earned from | Earning period | Paid around |
|---|---|---|
| Gifts, badges, subscriptions | The whole previous month | The 21st |
| Bonuses (first half) | 1st to 14th of the previous month | The 7th |
| Bonuses (second half) | 15th to end of the previous month | The 21st |
Instagram's own example: bonus earnings from January 1 to 14 arrive around February 7, and January 15 to 31 around February 21. If you're on bonuses and other tools at the same time, you'll get a bonus-only payment on the 7th and a combined one on the 21st.
The minimum balance rule
Instagram won't send a payment until your balance passes a threshold, and the threshold depends on where you live and how you're paid:
| Where you're paid | Minimum before a payout |
|---|---|
| United States | 5 US dollars |
| Outside the US, wire transfer | 100 US dollars |
| Outside the US, any other method | 25 US dollars |
If you don't reach it, nothing is lost. The balance carries over and keeps building until it clears the minimum. This is the single most common reason a small creator thinks a payment has gone missing: they earned something, but not enough yet.
Why your money might land later
- Bank time: Instagram says payouts can take 1 to 7 business days depending on your bank, and international payouts up to 10 days to reach a bank or PayPal account.
- A recent change to your details: updating your payout info puts the account on a 5-day hold. Make changes at least 10 days before a payment date or it slips to the next cycle.
- Name mismatch: the name on your tax ID must match the name you gave when you set up payouts.
- Fraud checks: payouts can be delayed or rejected if Instagram spots suspicious activity.
What to do if a payout hasn't arrived
- Wait 7 business days after the payout date.
- Check with your bank for an incoming payment.
- Open Professional dashboard, then Tools, then Payouts, and confirm your details are complete and correct.
- Check you passed the minimum balance for that period.
- If it's still missing, request support inside the Instagram app.
Set up payouts early, or risk losing it
You can start using badges, bonuses, gifts and subscriptions on a phone before your payout account is ready, but there's a ceiling. Instagram caps you at 500 US dollars per tool and 1,500 across three tools until it's done. And the deadline is real: if your payout account isn't complete within 6 months of onboarding, you forfeit those earnings. The Gifts Creator Terms repeat the same six-month rule.
When you set it up, you'll choose from four routes: sign in to your bank, enter bank details by hand, link PayPal, or link a debit card. Pick whichever your bank handles best for international payments if you're outside the US.
Your paperwork each month
Instagram emails you an invoice every pay period, even if you earned very little, and a remittance statement whenever a payment goes out. You can download the last 2 to 3 months of both from Payout settings, which is handy for tax time. Keep them; your accountant will ask.
A worked example
Say you're a UK creator who earns from gifts and a subscription in March, and you're paid by bank transfer rather than wire. Your March earnings are released around April 21. If the March total is under 25 US dollars, nothing is sent; it rolls into April's balance and is checked again around May 21. If you change your bank details on April 15, the 5-day hold and the 10-day rule mean that payment is likely to move to the May cycle. Add 1 to 7 business days for your bank to post it, and up to 10 days for an international payment, and you can see why late April or early May is when the money shows up for some creators.

Facebook pays on a different rhythm
If you also earn on Facebook, don't assume the dates line up. Facebook's monetisation payouts follow their own schedule; I've covered that in when Facebook pays out monetisation earnings. And if you're still at the stage of qualifying for any of this, how to start getting paid on Instagram is the better starting point.
My verdict
Expect Instagram money around the 21st for the month before, with bonuses also paying around the 7th, and add up to a week for your bank. Set up your payout account the day you join any tool, keep your details unchanged in the ten days before payday, and remember small balances roll over rather than vanish.
