In the Philippines, Google's payment-method table lists both check and wire transfer for AdSense, with EFT and Hyperwallet marked no. Checks are deposit only and arrive in two to four weeks, while wires can take up to 15 business days. Your bank handles any peso conversion.
If you're a Filipino blogger or YouTuber, you've probably got a real choice to make that publishers in some countries don't: cheque or wire. Neither is better for everyone. The right pick depends on your bank and how long you're happy to wait, so here's what Google's help pages say about each, with the catches spelled out.
Your menu: cheque or wire, nothing else
In Google's payment-method table, the Philippines is marked yes for check and yes for wire transfer. EFT is no and Hyperwallet is no. The YouTube columns match, so creators and website owners see the same two options. Google also says that if a payment form isn't shown on your Add payment method page, it isn't available where you live.
Choosing between the two
| What I checked | Check | Wire transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Listed for the Philippines | Marked yes by Google | Marked as offered |
| Arrival after Google issues it | 2 to 4 weeks by post | Up to 15 business days |
| Bank involvement | Your bank must accept the check | Your bank receives an incoming wire |
| Needs a trip to the bank | Yes, deposit only | No |
My honest read of Google's pages: the wire is the lower-effort route for most people, because nothing physical is posted and nothing can sit in a drawer until it expires. A check can still make sense if your bank is comfortable with it and you don't mind the wait.
What Google says about checks sent to the Philippines
This is where the catch sits. Google's check page says all checks are issued by Citibank. If a check comes in US dollars, your bank needs a correspondent relationship with Citibank to process it. Google can't tell you whether a given bank accepts its checks, so please ask yours before choosing this route. The page also says AdSense checks are for deposit only, which means you can't walk into a branch and cash one over the counter.
Delivery matters too. Google says your check delivery address has to be in the same country as the address in your payment settings. Checks usually arrive about two to four weeks after mailing. If one hasn't turned up after 60 days, you can reissue it from your Transactions page. If a check isn't deposited within 12 months, the earnings go back to your account and payments are put on hold.
Wire transfer: what Google asks and how long it takes
Google says it sends wire earnings in US dollars or Euros, depending on your account currency, by international wire to the bank you name. Your bank may add its own handling, which is why Google tells you to ask for its instructions for receiving a wire from abroad. Timing follows the same calendar as every other country: earnings finalised on the 3rd, changes to payment details by the 20th, and payments issued between the 21st and the 26th. After issue, a wire can take up to 15 business days.
Questions to ask your bank before you pick
- Do you accept US dollar checks drawn on Citibank, and do you have a correspondent relationship with it?
- How long do you hold a deposited check before the money is usable?
- What do you charge to receive an incoming international wire?
- Which exchange rate do you apply when foreign money is credited?
- Do you need any paperwork from me for foreign income?
Write the answers down. They'll tell you which of Google's two routes is cheaper and faster for you in practice, and Google's pages can't answer that for any individual bank.
Pesos, dollars and what your bank does with them
Google says it converts advertisers' payments into your payment currency at the market rate from the day before the ads were shown, and that you can't change your payment currency afterwards. If your bank account is in a different currency, your bank may apply its own exchange rate or even reject the payment. The Philippine peso isn't a row in Google's threshold table, so there's no peso figure to quote. For a US dollar account, the payment method selection threshold is 10 and the payment threshold is 100. The identity verification threshold is 0 and the address verification threshold is 10.
Tax residency paperwork and the United States treaty
Google says not everyone has to submit tax information, but where it's required and you skip it, your payout may face a higher withholding deduction. It also says withholding can be reduced where your country has a tax treaty with the country where you earn money through Google products. The IRS list of United States income tax treaties includes the Philippines. In Google's list of residency certificates, the Philippines document is called a 'Tax Residency Certificate (TRC)'.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
I'm not a tax adviser and Google says it can't give tax advice either, so please run the details past a local accountant. They'll know which forms and certificates your situation needs.
Identity and address checks come before the first payment
Google says you have 45 days from the first request to submit your identity documents, and address verification follows after that. The address step is a unique 6-digit PIN sent by international standard mail, with no tracking, which usually takes 3 weeks. You have 4 months from when it's generated to enter it, and three wrong attempts stop your account showing ads. For a Manila condo or a provincial address, use the version of your address that your local post office recognises.
Other ways to move the rest of your online income
AdSense only pays out by cheque or wire here, but many Filipino freelancers also receive client money elsewhere. It helps to know how PayPal works for people in the Philippines, what Payoneer offers to Filipino users and how Wise handles receiving money in the Philippines. If you also publish on YouTube, changing your YouTube payment method in AdSense is a handy walkthrough.
