KDP's payment options page lists the Philippines for direct deposit in PHP, with no check or wire option, so royalties go to a local bank account in pesos. There's no payment threshold on direct deposit, but KDP still wants tax details, and names on the bank account must match exactly.
If you're a Filipino author or freelancer wondering whether Amazon KDP will pay you at home, the short version is encouraging. I've read KDP's help pages on payments, bank accounts, thresholds and tax, plus the IRS treaty table, and the Philippines has a clear direct deposit route. The details around names, tax and timing are where people trip up, so I've laid them out below. I'm not a tax adviser, so check specifics with a local accountant.
Direct deposit in pesos is the Philippines route
KDP's payment options page lists the Philippines with direct deposit in PHP, the Philippine peso. It shows no check and no wire option for the country, so direct deposit is the method you're setting up.
KDP describes direct deposit as usually having no minimum payment threshold, and as the fastest, secure way to receive royalties. Its thresholds page backs that up: EFT payments have no threshold, whereas check and wire have a minimum in each store.
What your bank account name has to look like
This is the bit that catches people out. KDP's bank account page says the account holder name must match the information your bank has on file. The name can't include initials at the beginning or end, and it has to contain at least two words separated by a space.
Titles such as Mr. or Dr. should be left out. If your bank record shows a different order of names, or a middle name your KDP account omits, fix that before you add the account. KDP also says it checks the details to confirm it can pay within five business days, and it emails you if validation fails.
How long the peso payment takes
KDP says royalties are paid every month, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the sale was reported. Sales through Expanded Distribution take 90 days. After the payment date, direct deposit takes 1 to 5 business days to appear in your bank account.
So a sale in one month lands about two months after that month ends, and a few days later in your bank. If your first payment looks late, count from the end of the sales month, not the day the book sold.
The IRS treaty table and the Philippines
KDP says non-US publishers need a tax interview, and that a reduced withholding rate won't apply until you provide a taxpayer ID. The IRS treaty Table 1 lists the Philippines with a copyrights royalty rate of 15, under treaty article 13(2). It also carries a note that the Philippine tax rate differs from the US tax rate.
I'm only repeating what the table says. How that figure applies to a particular book, store and royalty type is a question for a Philippine accountant or the BIR, not for a blog post.
Getting an ITIN support letter
KDP lists three conditions for an ITIN support letter from Amazon. Your country of permanent residence needs an active tax treaty with the US, you must have completed the KDP tax profile, and you must have received a US payment from KDP. The page adds that eligibility is subject to Amazon's requirements.
In practice that means you can't get the letter before you've been paid once. If you don't have a US number, KDP says you may enter the income tax identification number issued by the tax authority in your country of residence.

| Direct deposit threshold | None |
| Time to arrive after payment date | 1 to 5 business days |
| IRS table royalty rate (copyrights) | 15 |
Paperwork to have ready before you publish
Have your legal name, a valid mailing address for tax reporting and royalty payments, and your bank details to hand. KDP says the name in Account Details should be the legal name of the author, with no pen name or special characters. You add a pen name later, in the book details, and KDP may also ask you to verify your identity.
When the sale currency isn't pesos
Most of your sales will be priced in dollars, pounds or euros, not pesos. KDP's payment pages say that where royalties are paid in a currency other than the sale currency, the money is converted at Amazon's own exchange rate. Compare what lands in your account with what the report showed.
If you also work with international clients and want the wider picture of getting paid from home, my guides on PayPal in the Philippines and Payoneer for Filipino freelancers cover those routes separately. KDP itself says PayPal is not available as a payout method.
Scams around KDP royalties
- KDP doesn't charge a fee to release royalties.
- Never share your bank login, one-time codes or card PIN with anyone claiming to be Amazon.
- Use only the Getting Paid section of your own KDP account to change bank details.
- Be careful with anyone selling a KDP income course or account service that promises results.
So, does Amazon KDP work in the Philippines?
Yes, on KDP's own table it does, with direct deposit in pesos and no threshold on that method. The things to get right are the bank account name, the tax interview and patience with the monthly schedule. Don't expect income from any book until it's selling, and never trust anyone who promises a result.
