Is Joss and Main Legit? Who Owns It and How Orders Work (2026)

Yes, Joss and Main is a real retailer. It's one of five home brands run by Wayfair, a Boston company founded in 2002, so it isn't an anonymous shop. The catch is that much of the range comes from outside suppliers, so delivery and returns depend on the item.

Joss and Main pops up in a lot of home decor ads and sale emails, and a few people have messaged me asking if it's the real thing. I've read through what Wayfair's own pages say about the brand, plus the public history, so here's a straight answer you can use before you fill a basket.

Who owns Joss and Main?

According to Wikipedia, Wayfair was started in 2002 by Niraj Shah and Steve Conine, originally as CSN Stores. Wayfair now runs five branded retail websites: Wayfair, Joss and Main, AllModern, Birch Lane and Perigold. So when you shop at Joss and Main you're dealing with the Wayfair group, not a lone dropshipper.

Wayfair's own corporate site says its headquarters is in Boston and describes the company as founder-led since inception in 2002. It quotes 21.4 Million active customers. That's Wayfair's figure, not mine, but it tells you this is a large, named company with a public address.

The Joss and Main homepage backs this up. The header links straight across to Wayfair, AllModern, Birch Lane and Perigold, which is how sister brands usually present themselves.

How Joss and Main started

Wikipedia says Joss and Main launched at the end of 2010 as a members-only online store. When Wayfair merged its niche sites into Wayfair.com in 2012, Joss and Main and AllModern were kept separate. That history matters because it explains why the site feels like a curated style shop even though it sits inside a very big retailer.

How buying from Joss and Main works

You browse by room, style or category, add things to a basket and pay at checkout on the Joss and Main site. The range covers furniture, rugs, lighting, bedding, decor and outdoor pieces. Wayfair's corporate page says the group offers over 40 Million products from 20K+ suppliers, which is a clue to how it works: much of what you buy is made or held by outside suppliers rather than packed in one warehouse.

In practice that means two things for you:

  • Different items in one order can arrive separately and on different days.
  • Delivery times, assembly and return rules can differ from item to item, so read the product page rather than assuming.
  • Big pieces such as sofas and tables can be harder and slower to send back than a lamp or a cushion.

Members, sales and the small print

The homepage advertises that members save an extra 5% sitewide, and it carries an asterisk against its delivery offer. An asterisk means conditions apply, so click through and read them before you rely on a headline offer. Sale banners are normal on home sites, and the thing to check is the final total at checkout, including delivery and any fees shown there.

What I checkedWhat Joss and Main's own pages show
Is there a real company behind it?Yes, Wayfair, headquartered in Boston
Is it part of a bigger group?Yes, one of five Wayfair brands
Does it have a history?Launched at the end of 2010 as a members-only store
Where do products come from? Many outside suppliers, per Wayfair's own figures
Does the homepage have conditions?Yes, an asterisk on its delivery offer

Returns and refunds at Joss and Main

I wasn't able to read Wayfair's return policy page directly, so I won't quote a return window or a fee, and I'd be wary of any site that tells you a number it hasn't sourced. What I can say is how to protect yourself. Open the return policy linked from the product page or your order, check whether the item you're buying has special rules, and note the date your order arrives.

  • Keep the order confirmation and delivery photos.
  • Inspect large items before you sign for them and report damage in writing.
  • Use the order page on the site for returns, not a link someone sent you.
  • If a refund is late, contact the site's support first, then your card provider if it still isn't resolved.

Who can use Joss and Main?

Wayfair's corporate site says it operates across North America and Europe, with delivery centres in the US, Canada and the UK. Joss and Main itself is aimed at shoppers in the US. If you live elsewhere, check at checkout whether your address is accepted before you spend time choosing things.

Fake Joss and Main sites and ads

Because the brand is well known, copycats appear. Lookalike shops use the name in social ads with huge discounts and a different web address. Here's how I'd check a link:

  • Type the address yourself instead of tapping an ad.
  • Look for the Wayfair family links in the header, which the real homepage shows.
  • Be suspicious of prices far below anything else, or checkout that asks you to pay by bank transfer or gift card.
  • Pay on the official site's checkout only.

My guide to spotting a fake product review is useful here too, because lookalike shops often copy glowing reviews. And if you want to compare shops before buying, I've listed review sites shoppers can use with their blind spots.

My verdict on Joss and Main

Joss and Main is legit: it's a real brand inside a large, named retailer with a public record. The risks are the ordinary ones with big furniture buying. Items can come from different suppliers, deliveries can be split, and returns of bulky pieces can be a hassle. Check the exact item page, read the return policy before you pay and only ever buy from the official site.

Frequently asked questions

Is Joss and Main owned by Wayfair?

Yes. Wikipedia lists Joss and Main as one of Wayfair's five branded retail websites, and the Joss and Main homepage links across to the other Wayfair brands.

Is Joss and Main a scam?

No. It's an established brand that launched at the end of 2010 and sits inside Wayfair. Scams use its name through fake sites and ads, so only shop on the official address.

Does Joss and Main ship from one warehouse?

Not necessarily. Wayfair's own site says the group offers over 40 Million products from 20K+ suppliers, so items in one order may ship separately.

How do I return something to Joss and Main?

Use the order page on the official site and read the return policy shown for your item. I couldn't read the policy page directly, so I haven't quoted a window or fee.

What does the asterisk on the delivery offer mean?

The homepage marks its delivery offer with an asterisk, which means conditions apply. Click through to read them before you rely on the offer.
