Yes, Scentbird is a real company: Scentbird, Inc. is established in New Jersey and sells a monthly fragrance subscription in the US, Canada and the UK. The catch is that it's a renewing subscription, shipped subscription items aren't refundable, and longer plans can only be cancelled at the end of the term.
Perfume subscriptions look fun in an ad, and then you wonder what happens when you want out. That's usually what people mean when they ask whether Scentbird is legit. I went through its terms and its public pages so you can see the rules before you hand over a card, and I've kept to what the company itself says.
Who is behind Scentbird
The terms say the site is offered by Scentbird, Inc., which is established in New Jersey, United States, with a street address in Somerset listed in the terms. Its team page names Mariya Nurislamova as founder and CEO. A named company, a postal address and a named founder is what I'd expect from a real business.
How the Scentbird subscription works
Scentbird's home page says it delivers new designer scents every month, with each shipment an 8mL vial. The idea is that you try a scent for a while instead of buying a full bottle. Its terms also describe optional add-on subscriptions, such as a candle club, a sample duo, a car scent and a case subscription, which are only open to people who already have the fragrance subscription.
If you skip a month on the fragrance subscription, any active add-ons are skipped for that month too. You can't skip an add-on by itself, but you can cancel one whenever you like without touching your main plan.
Renewals and billing dates at Scentbird
This is the part to read slowly. The terms say your subscription automatically continues and renews for the same period as the original term until you or Scentbird end it. Renewals happen on the 5th day of the month. The amount billed can also differ from what you first paid if your original plan was bought under a promotional offer, and you authorise those varying amounts when you sign up.
The terms add that you can change your preferences for the next shipment as long as you do it at least one day before your next billing cycle. If you have a lot of subscriptions on the go, my piece on the subscription creep that catches business owners out covers a simple way to keep track of renewals.
How to cancel Scentbird
According to the terms, you stop automatic renewal of the fragrance subscription by contacting the Customer Experience team through the Help Center. Add-on subscriptions can be cancelled individually under Manage Subscription in your account. Scentbird says it will use reasonable efforts to process cancellation requests within seven business days.
There's a catch for committed plans. For 3-, 6- or 12-month plans, the terms say cancellation doesn't take effect until the end of the term, you won't get a refund, and you keep receiving shipments through the prepaid period. Check which kind of plan you chose before you assume you can leave straight away.
Refunds, returns and damaged bottles
| What happened | What Scentbird's terms say |
|---|---|
| Shipped subscription items | No refunds, except for damaged or defective items that can't be replaced |
| Damaged or defective items | May be exchanged within 30 days of delivery |
| A la carte full-size fragrances and gift sets | Can be returned within 15 days, unopened, for store credit |
| Customers in the UK or Canada | The terms say returns for those orders aren't available |
| Gift subscriptions | Not refundable, and not renewed after the purchased term |
The terms also explain why a vial may look slightly short. A tolerance space of between 3 and 5 percent is left in every vial, and Scentbird says the vials are still considered full and contain 120 sprays as promised.
Where Scentbird ships and who can join
Scentbird says it ships within the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. It can't serve US territories, APO, FPO or DPO addresses, or other countries. Registration and product sales are limited to people aged 18 or older.

The real catch with Scentbird
Nothing here is hidden, but it's easy to overlook. A subscription renews until you cancel it, shipped items aren't refundable, and a long plan locks you in until the end of the term. If you simply forget to skip a month, you may still be billed for it. Put a reminder in your calendar a few days before the renewal date.
Fake Scentbird sites and sellers
Fragrance is a favourite target for copycat shops, because the products are small, expensive and easy to fake. Stick to the official website and apps, and be suspicious of any seller that offers the same brands at silly prices or asks for payment outside the checkout.
- Type the address yourself instead of following an ad.
- Use the Help Center link on the official site for support, not a number from a social post.
- Pay by card so you have dispute rights if something goes wrong.
- Read the terms before you pay, as you've now seen how much they cover.
The same caution applies to reviews. My guide to spotting a fake product review shows the patterns that give manipulated feedback away.
My verdict on Scentbird
It's a legitimate subscription business with a named company behind it and published rules. Whether it suits you comes down to the small print: the renewal date, the cancellation route and the no-refund rule on shipped subscription items. Read those first, pick the plan that matches how committed you want to be and you shouldn't get any nasty surprises.
