On the Instagram login screen where your saved accounts show, tap the three dots (or Edit or Manage) next to the account and choose Remove. If you're still logged in, go to Profile, then the menu, then Accounts Center, then Password and security, then Saved login, and turn it off for that account.
Removing a remembered account only clears it from that one phone or browser. It doesn't log you out anywhere else, and it doesn't delete or deactivate the account. The account is still there; this device just stops offering it with a single tap.
From the login screen
Use this when you're already logged out and the account is still sitting on the login screen with its profile picture.
- Open Instagram. You'll see the saved account (or several) on the login screen.
- Tap the three dots next to the account you want to remove. On some versions this is an Edit or Manage option at the top or bottom of the screen instead.
- Tap Remove next to the account.
- Confirm when Instagram asks.
- Close and reopen the app to check it's gone.
On some versions there's a Settings link at the bottom of the login screen, where you can turn off remembered login for that account. Either way gets you to the same result.
From inside the app while you're logged in
If you're signed in now and want the phone to stop remembering you once you log out, there are two ways.
Turn off saved login
- Go to your profile and tap the menu (three lines).
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Tap Password and security.
- Tap Saved login.
- Pick the account and turn saved login off, or remove it.
Say Not now when you log out
- Go to your profile, tap the menu, then Settings (or Settings and privacy).
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Log out.
- When Instagram asks whether to remember your login info, tap Not now.
If a menu name looks different in your version, search Instagram's settings for "saved login" and it'll take you straight there.
In a web browser
On a computer, Instagram can remember you through the browser rather than the app. The clean way out is to log out from the menu, decline when it offers to save your login, and then clear what the browser itself has kept. In your browser's own settings, look for saved passwords and remove the Instagram one, then clear cookies and site data for Instagram. On a library or office computer, a private or incognito window next time saves you the whole job.
It's also worth checking your phone's own password manager. If iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager saved your Instagram password, the login screen can keep filling it in even after you've removed the account from Instagram. Delete the saved entry there if the phone isn't yours.
Why the account can keep coming back
The catch: if you used Log in with Facebook, or the Instagram account sits in the same Accounts Center as another account on that phone, Instagram can still offer it through the other account even after you've removed it from the login screen. It looks as if the removal didn't work.
The fix is to remove it from Accounts Center as well, if it's not yours to keep on that device. Open Accounts Center from whichever account is still logged in, look at the accounts listed, and remove the one that shouldn't be there. Then log out of the other account too if the phone isn't yours.
Removing it from this phone vs other options
People often mix up these three, and they do very different things:
| What you do | What happens | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Remove remembered account | This phone stops showing the account on the login screen. You're not logged out anywhere else and nothing is deleted | You've logged in on someone else's phone, or you're tidying up your own |
| Log out of all devices | Every other phone, tablet and browser signed in to the account is logged out | You've lost a phone, sold one, or think someone else is in the account |
| Delete or deactivate the account | The account is hidden or removed for everyone, not just on this phone | You want to leave Instagram, for a break or for good |
If what you want is a break rather than a cleaner login screen, deactivation is the one to look at. I've gone through that in how to deactivate your Instagram account.

On a shared or borrowed phone
If you've logged in on a family tablet, a friend's phone or a work device, removing the remembered account is the first step, not the last. Here's what I'd do before handing it back:
- Log out of Instagram on that device, and tap Not now when it asks to remember you.
- Remove the account from the login screen if it still shows.
- Check Accounts Center on your own phone for anything linked that you don't recognise.
- If you're worried someone saw your password, open Accounts Center, then Password and security, then Where you're logged in, and log that device out from your own phone.
- Change your password if you've any doubt at all.
If you need a new password, the steps are in how to reset your Instagram password. And if the same phone has your Snapchat on it, how to log out of Snapchat covers the same clean-up there.
Going the other way: other people's accounts on your phone
Sometimes the problem is a partner's or child's account that keeps showing on your phone after they borrowed it. You can remove it from your login screen using the same steps. You don't need their password to do that, and it doesn't affect their account at all; it only stops your phone offering it.
What you shouldn't do is log in to it, even if the password's saved. It's their account, and the kind thing is to remove it and tell them it was still there.
If it were my phone, I'd remove any account that isn't mine from the login screen and from Accounts Center, then turn off saved login for my own account on any device I share with someone else.

Frequently asked questions
Does removing a remembered account delete it?
No. It only clears the account from that phone or browser's login screen. The account, posts and followers stay exactly as they are.
Will removing it log me out on other phones?
No. Other devices stay logged in. To log out everywhere, use Where you're logged in under Password and security in Accounts Center.
Why does the account still show after I removed it?
It's probably linked through Facebook login or the same Accounts Center as another account on the phone. Remove it from Accounts Center as well.
How do I stop Instagram remembering me in the first place?
When you log out, tap Not now when Instagram asks whether to remember your login info. You can also turn off saved login in Accounts Center.
