To add certifications to LinkedIn, go to your profile, click Add profile section, open Recommended and choose Add licenses & certifications, then fill in the form and save. The detail people miss: pick the issuing organisation from LinkedIn's suggestions as you type, or the issuer's logo won't appear next to your certificate.
You worked hard for that certificate, so it deserves better than a line buried halfway down your About section. LinkedIn has a dedicated Licenses & certifications section for exactly this, and when it's filled in well, the issuer's logo sits next to the credential and anyone skimming your profile can see it at a glance.
That's useful whether you're job hunting and want recruiters to spot a required qualification, or you run a business and want prospects to see you're trained and accredited. Below I'll cover adding a certification on a computer and on your phone, what to put in each field, the shortcut for course certificates, and what to do when it won't show the way you want. It's based on LinkedIn's Help Center articles on licences and certifications, Learning certificates and the Add to Profile button.
Add certifications to LinkedIn from a computer
- Go to your LinkedIn profile.
- Click Add profile section, under your name and headline.
- Open the Recommended dropdown.
- Choose Add licenses & certifications.
- Fill in the form (more on the fields below) and click Save.
To add another one, repeat the same steps. Each certification is its own entry.
Adding a certification to LinkedIn on your phone
- Open your profile in the LinkedIn app.
- Tap Add section.
- Find licences and certifications (it's usually under the Recommended group) and tap it.
- Complete the form and tap Save.
Menus vary a little between app versions. If you can't see the option straight away, expand the list of sections rather than assuming it's gone.
What to enter in each LinkedIn certification field
The form asks for the certification's name and the issuing organisation, plus optional details such as dates and a credential ID or link. Here's how I'd fill them in:
| Field | What I'd put |
|---|---|
| Name | The exact title on your certificate, no abbreviations unless that's how people search for it |
| Issuing organization | Start typing and choose the official organisation from the suggestions |
| Issue and expiry dates | Add them if your certificate has them; leave expiry empty if it doesn't expire |
| Credential ID | The reference number printed on your certificate, if there is one |
| Credential URL | The issuer's verification page for your certificate, if they provide one |
The issuing organisation is the field that makes the biggest difference. LinkedIn suggests organisations as you type, and picking the right one brings its logo onto your entry. If you type the name and don't select a suggestion, the logo may not appear, and a bare text entry looks far less convincing to someone skimming your profile. It's worth checking how the entry looks from your public profile view once you've saved it.
Adding LinkedIn Learning certificates to your profile
If you've finished a course on LinkedIn Learning, there's a quicker route:
- In LinkedIn Learning, go to My Library, then Learning History.
- Click More (the three dots) next to the completed course or learning path.
- Select Add to profile.
- Choose whether to share it with your network, then confirm.
Only completed courses and learning paths qualify; each video needs its green tick. LinkedIn also adds the course's skills, and you can untick any you don't want. One limit to know: if your profile already has more than 100 skills, you can't add more.
Certificates from other providers: the Add to Profile button
Many training providers include an Add to Profile button in their completion email or on their website. Clicking it opens a LinkedIn form, but LinkedIn's help says the details no longer fill themselves in, so you'll still type the name, dates and credential details yourself. The logo comes from the provider's LinkedIn Page.
Editing, deleting and ordering LinkedIn certifications
To change or remove an entry, go to the Licenses & certifications section on your profile and click the edit icon (the pencil). From there you can update the details or delete the entry.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
The one thing you can't do is drag them into your own order. LinkedIn's help says licences and certifications can't be manually rearranged. If you'd like your most impressive credential to stand out, mention it in your headline or About section as well.
Getting LinkedIn certifications seen by recruiters and clients
Adding the credential is step one. Making it count is step two:
- Add the matching skills to your Skills section so you show up in more searches.
- Mention any must-have qualification for your field in your headline, not only in the section.
- Share a short post when you complete a new qualification, saying what you learnt and how you'll use it.
- Remove certifications that have expired or no longer reflect what you do.
For job seekers, it's worth making sure the same credentials appear on your CV and your profile, and that your CV points to LinkedIn; my guide on adding your LinkedIn profile to your CV walks through it. For business owners, certifications are part of the trust picture, which I go into in what a LinkedIn profile really means for your business. If your LinkedIn certification won't show up right
- No logo: edit the entry and choose the organisation from the suggestions instead of typing it freely.
- Can't find the section: look under Recommended in Add profile section, and expand the full list.
- Learning course won't add: check every video is ticked as complete, then refresh Learning History.
- Skills won't add: you may be over the 100-skill limit, so remove a few older ones first.

Frequently asked questions
Where do certifications go on LinkedIn?
In the Licenses & certifications section. Add it from your profile with Add profile section, then Recommended, then Add licenses & certifications.
Why doesn't my certification show the issuer's logo?
You probably typed the organisation's name without selecting it. Edit the entry and pick the official organisation from LinkedIn's suggestions.
Can I reorder my certifications on LinkedIn?
No. LinkedIn's help says licences and certifications can't be manually rearranged.
Can I add an unfinished course to LinkedIn?
Not as a LinkedIn Learning certificate. Only completed courses and learning paths can be added from Learning History.
Does the Add to Profile button fill in my certificate details?
Not any more. LinkedIn says the details no longer autofill, so you type them in yourself after clicking the button.
