TikTok Shop isn't available in India, because TikTok has been blocked there since late June of 2020 and both TikTok and the government said in August of 2025 that nothing had changed. India also isn't on TikTok's published seller region menu.
If you typed this into Google from Mumbai, Delhi or Bengaluru, you probably want a straight answer before a sales pitch. So here's the short version: TikTok itself is blocked in India, which means there's no TikTok Shop for Indian shoppers to use. I'll walk through what the sources say, what's different about being a seller versus a creator, and what I'd do with the time instead.
Why there is no TikTok Shop in India
TikTok Shop is a feature inside the TikTok app. It needs the app to open, so the first question is whether the app works in the country at all. In India it doesn't. The government banned TikTok and dozens of other Chinese-linked apps in late June of 2020, under Section 69A of the IT Act, and that block is the reason a shop was never switched on there.
I've seen plenty of videos and blog posts claiming the ban has quietly ended. I checked what I could find from people who'd know, and the claims don't hold up.
What TikTok and the government said when the website briefly loaded
On 22 August of 2025 TikTok's website was reachable for some people in India for a short time, and headlines about a comeback followed. Within hours a TikTok spokesperson told TechCrunch that access had not been restored and that the company continues to comply with the Government of India's directive.
The government said the same thing from its side. According to All India Radio's news report, it stated that no order had been issued to lift the ban on TikTok, and IT ministry sources called the reports of an unblocking order false and misleading. That's two parties, both on the record, saying nothing had changed. I couldn't find a later official notice, so I'd treat any newer comeback story as a rumour until TikTok or the ministry says otherwise.
Does TikTok's own seller site list India?
TikTok's seller site has a region menu showing where you can open a shop. It groups the Americas (United States, Mexico, Brazil), Asia (Global Selling, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) and Europe (Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, United Kingdom). India isn't on it.
TikTok also says sellers need to be in a supported market, and its registration rules say you must live in the country you pick for your shop. So an Indian resident can't simply choose another country from the menu and register there. I'd read the absence from the list as 'not offered', not as a legal ruling, but for your planning it comes to the same thing.
What an Indian creator can and can't do with TikTok Shop
Affiliate earnings from TikTok Shop, where you collect a reward on products sold through your videos and LIVE streams without holding stock, are for creators aged 18 and over who are inside a market where the shop runs. I can't find any official route that lets a creator in India join that programme from India.
Two other TikTok programmes point the same way. The Creator Rewards Program is open to creators in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, South Korea, France, Mexico and Brazil, and India isn't one of them. TikTok's Earn abroad feature, which lets US-based creators sell products to shoppers elsewhere, lists the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and newer European markets and Mexico, and again India doesn't appear.
Where the money would have landed: rupees and the Reserve Bank
For completeness, the currency question. The Indian rupee has the ISO code INR, it's issued by the Reserve Bank of India, and 100 paise make one rupee. Because there's no TikTok Shop settlement for India, there's no TikTok payout in rupees to describe. If someone offers to send you 'TikTok Shop earnings' to an Indian bank account, I'd be very wary, and I wouldn't hand over any ID or bank details.

Warnings I'd give a friend in India
- Don't pay anyone who says they can switch on TikTok Shop for your Indian account. There's no documented route, so you'd be buying a promise.
- Don't share your Aadhaar, PAN or bank details with a stranger who says they run a TikTok Shop agency.
- Don't build a business that depends on a workaround to reach an app the government has blocked. If the rules tighten, you lose the audience overnight.
- Check the date on any article claiming TikTok is back, then look for a statement from TikTok or the government rather than a blogger.
What to do instead if you want to sell through short video
The skill that makes TikTok Shop work is making short product videos that people trust, and that skill moves with you. If your audience is already on Instagram, my breakdown of what Instagram pays per thousand views in India shows how creators there are paid today, and what ten thousand Instagram followers can earn in India is a realistic look at the next step.
For a wider view of what short video pays in neighbouring markets, my guide to how TikTok Shop works in Malaysia shows what a live market looks like, so you can see what's different when the platform is allowed.
If you're a business owner rather than a creator, keep your product photos, short clips and customer reviews in one place. They'll work on any platform you choose, and they'll be ready if TikTok ever announces a return.

Frequently asked questions
Is TikTok Shop available in India?
No. TikTok has been blocked in India since late June of 2020, and TikTok said in August of 2025 that it continues to comply with the government's directive, so there's no TikTok Shop for India.
Has India lifted the TikTok ban?
Not according to the statements I could find. On 22 August of 2025 the government said no order had been issued to lift the ban, and TikTok said access hadn't been restored.
Can I sell on TikTok Shop from India?
India isn't on the region menu of TikTok's seller site, and TikTok's rules say you must live in the country you choose for your shop. I couldn't find an official route for Indian residents.
Can Indian creators earn from TikTok Shop affiliate links?
I found no official route. Affiliate rewards are tied to markets where TikTok Shop operates, and India isn't one of them.
Which currency would TikTok Shop pay in India?
There's no TikTok Shop settlement for India, so there's no payout to describe. The Indian rupee (INR) is the currency, issued by the Reserve Bank of India.
