Write for Us Sustainability: Sustainability Blog Guest Post Guidelines

Yes, sustainability guest posts are accepted on this blog. The ideal writer is a sustainability consultant, founder, operations lead or procurement manager who has made a business greener and can explain one change, how it was measured and what it meant for the company. We decline greenwashing, vague pledges, guilt driven essays and claims nobody can check.

Searching sustainability write for us mostly turns up directories and lifestyle blogs that take any eco themed post, and many of the pitches we get are broad essays about saving the planet. What this blog wants is a business change someone made and stuck with: how a small brand switched its packaging without upsetting customers, what a consultant measures first when a company says it wants to be greener, why one supplier change made more difference than a dozen office tweaks.

My readers are owners of small and growing businesses who want to do better without risking the business. They already read my guides to going green in a small business and sustainability upgrades for small businesses. A sustainability post has to show them a change they can make and check, not lecture them.

60-second sustainability guest post check

A strong submission can answer yes to all five points:

  • Have you made or advised on sustainability changes in real businesses
  • Can you show how the change was measured
  • Does your opening answer the reader's question in the first two lines
  • Have you avoided claims that can't be checked
  • Would a small business owner be able to try it

Read the guidelines and submit your guest post.

What we publish

  • Packaging changes that customers welcomed
  • Measuring a small business's footprint for the first time
  • Greener suppliers and how to ask the right questions
  • Talking about sustainability without greenwashing
  • Energy, travel and office changes that make a difference
  • Circular and refill models for product brands
  • Getting staff on board with greener habits
  • Certifications and what they mean for small companies

If your post could be published on any sustainability site with the logo swapped, it is not for us.

What we look for in sustainability posts

These are the sustainability topics that land, and the version of each that gets turned down.

TopicWhat gets acceptedWhat gets declined
PackagingA switch you made and what customers saidA plea to ban plastic
MeasurementHow you measured a business's footprintBig figures with no source
SuppliersQuestions you asked and what changedA list of green brands
CommunicationHow you talk about it without greenwashingMarketing claims you can't prove
CultureHow you got staff to change habitsGuilt based messaging

What we don't accept

  • Greenwashing or claims that can't be checked
  • Vague pledges with no action behind them
  • Guilt driven essays aimed at readers
  • Thin posts with no first hand experience behind them
  • Previously published posts republished from another site

What you get

  • Your article in front of an engaged audience of business owners, marketers and founders
  • One relevant, contextual link back to your own site
  • A byline and the credibility of an established, high-traffic blog
  • Editorial help to make the piece as strong as it can be before it goes live

How to submit

Send your pitch or draft through the contact form. Include the topic, the one specific problem the post solves, and a line on your first-hand experience with it. One idea per pitch works best. You will hear back on whether it is a fit before you write the full draft.

What a strong sustainability pitch looks like

A weak pitch says "I want to write about why every business should go green." A strong one says "I'm the operations lead at a small homeware brand, and I want to show how we replaced plastic packaging, the supplier questions that made it possible, and the customer feedback we didn't expect." One is a brochure. The other is worth reading.

The angles that get accepted fastest

  • The first footprint measurement a small business should do
  • Supplier questions that reveal real sustainability
  • Switching packaging without losing customers
  • Writing sustainability claims that hold up
  • Why one big change beats many small gestures
  • Refill and take back schemes for product brands
  • Bringing a sceptical team along
  • What a sustainability certification involves

Frequently asked questions

Does Lilach Bullock accept sustainability guest posts?

Yes. Sustainability guest posts are welcome from consultants, founders, operations leads and procurement managers who've made businesses greener. We publish real, measurable changes and decline greenwashing, vague pledges and claims nobody can check.

What sustainability topics do you accept?

Packaging, footprint measurement, greener suppliers, honest sustainability messaging, energy and travel changes, circular models, staff habits and certifications. The common thread is a change a small business can make and check.

Do you accept environment or climate guest posts too?

Yes, but wider environmental and nature pitches suit the environment page better. Every pitch reaches the same editor, and the same rule applies: specific, checkable and useful to a business owner.

How long should a guest post be?

Most accepted posts run between 1,200 and 2,000 words. Length matters less than usefulness: a tight 1,200 word post with one clear lesson beats a 3,000 word overview every time. Use short paragraphs, clear subheadings and at least one real example.

Can I include a link back to my own site?

One contextual link back to your own site is fine when it is relevant and helps the reader. Posts written purely to build a backlink with no real value for the reader are not published.

Do you accept previously published content?

No. Every submission must be original and not published anywhere else first, including your own blog, Medium, LinkedIn or a guest slot on another site. Republished or lightly reworded content gets declined, and we check before anything goes live.

Can I use AI tools to help write my guest post?

You can use AI to help with research or tidying your draft, but the experience, examples and opinions must be yours. Posts that read like generic AI output, with no first-hand detail, are declined.

Do you accept sponsored or commercial partnerships?

Commercial and partnership enquiries are handled separately from editorial guest posts. If you are a brand or agency wanting to work together rather than pitch an article, say so in the contact form and you will get the right details back.

How long does a decision take?

We aim to come back to you within a few working days. If the pitch is specific and clearly written, with the result in the first line, the decision is much faster.

Do you edit guest posts before they go live?

Yes. Every accepted post gets an editorial pass for clarity, structure and accuracy, and you may be asked for an extra example or a missing number. The aim is to make your piece as useful as it can be, not to change your voice.

Can I pitch more than one idea?

Yes, but send them one at a time or as a short numbered list with one line each. The strongest pitch goes first, and a single clear idea with a real result almost always beats several vague ones.

How do I submit a sustainability guest post?

Send your pitch through the contact form with the topic, the specific result or lesson you will cover, and a line on your own experience making businesses greener. One idea per pitch works best, and you will hear back before you write the full draft.
