Nowadays setting up an ecommerce store is not that difficult, and there are many ecommerce platforms that you can use. However ensuring that it is a success is not as easy, and can be a struggle.

If you want your ecommerce store to make a profit, you need to know how to market it and the product that you sell in order to increase their sales. The good news is that as complicated as that sounds, there are a few useful tips that you can try.

Find the Right Price

No matter what your products must be priced competitively, otherwise you’re unlikely to make many sales. If potential customers can find products that are very similar but much cheaper, they’ll definitely opt for them.

Ideally, you should evaluate the price of the products that you’re selling beforehand. It should be easy enough to find tools that can help you out, such as AMZScout, which additionally will allow you to explore the Amazon marketplace and estimate future profits.

Pricing is a key factor that can help you to determine whether or not a product is worth promoting in the first place. Not only is the list price important, but the margin that you’re able to earn from selling the products must be high enough too.

All your product pages must be optimized for search, and should target the right keywords. That is the only way you can be assured that customers will be able to find your products easily – either using the platform’s internal search, or search engines such as Google.

In general, you should keyword optimize the title of your product listing as well as its description. On top of that if the platform you’re using has a tag-based system, be sure to take advantage of it too.

Focus on Building Trust

Trust is important if you want to increase sales – especially when you first start out. And the best way to start building trust is to encourage all your customers to leave reviews for the products that they purchase.

Reviews are a powerful form of social proof and the more good reviews you are able to gather – the more sales you’ll make. Good reviews will convince potential customers that the products you’re selling will meet their expectations, and the reviews will also help shore up your reputation as a vendor who can be trusted.

Add Video to the Product Pages

Videos can make a world of difference to your sales conversion rate. By adding them to your product pages you could convince more potential customers to buy the product right then and there.

The most popular type of video for product pages is definitely demonstration videos. The goal should be to show potential customers what the product can do, how effective it is, and what makes it unique

Most ecommerce platforms support videos nowadays so adding them should be relatively straightforward. Recording the video might be a bit tricky however, and you may want to hire a professional to help.

Final Words

See how these tips should help to boost your sales? All of them should work regardless of the ecommerce platform you’re using, and will help you to either attract more potential customers, or convince them to make a purchase.

At the end of the day all these tips are still just the tip of the iceberg however. If you want your ecommerce store to be a huge success, you need to build on them and continue to find different tactics to improve your sales.

Where sales fall apart on ecommerce platforms (and what I tell clients to fix first)

I've audited enough Shopify and WooCommerce stores now to spot the same three mistakes on repeat. Nobody builds a checkout that fails on purpose, but small decisions stack up until conversion rates sit well below what the traffic deserves. Here's what I see most often, and what I get clients to change first.

The biggest one: treating the product page like a brochure instead of a sales pitch. Founders write copy that describes the product but never answers the question a stranger is asking, which is "why should I trust this and buy it now." One client of mine ran a homeware brand with decent traffic and a conversion rate stuck under 1%. We didn't touch the design. We rewrote product descriptions to lead with the problem the product solves, added real customer photos instead of stock shots, and put shipping and returns info directly on the page instead of buried in a policy link. Conversion rose to 2.3% within six weeks. Same traffic, same ad spend, different words and proof.

Second mistake: checkout friction that founders can't see because they never test it themselves on a phone with a slow connection. Extra form fields, forced account creation, no guest checkout, hidden shipping costs that appear at the last step. Every one of these is a reason someone abandons a cart they were seconds from completing. Test your own checkout on mobile once a month, timed, as if you were a customer with fifteen minutes before a meeting.

Third: abandoned cart emails that go out once, generic, with no urgency and no reason to come back. A simple three-email sequence, first a reminder within an hour, second a bit of social proof or FAQ answer the next day, third a small incentive after 48 hours, recovers far more revenue than one lonely reminder ever will. This is the single highest ROI fix I recommend to almost every ecommerce client, because the traffic and intent already exist. You're just not following up.

What's changed heading into 2026 is how much of this can be automated without it feeling robotic. AI-driven product recommendations, dynamic pricing nudges, and personalised email sequences are now built into most major platforms rather than needing a third party app. The mistake now isn't lack of tools, it's turning every tool on at once without a plan. Start with one fix, measure it, then move to the next.

A short checklist I hand to most clients:

  • Rewrite your top five product pages to lead with a problem, not a feature list
  • Test checkout on mobile yourself, monthly, and count the steps
  • Set up a three-part abandoned cart sequence if you don't already have one
  • Add real reviews with photos near the buy button, not on a separate tab
  • Pick one automation to improve this quarter, not five

More questions

What's the fastest win for a small ecommerce store with limited budget?

Fix your abandoned cart emails first. It costs nothing but time to set up and it recovers revenue from people who already showed intent to buy. Most platforms have this built in, so there's rarely an excuse to skip it.

Should I focus on getting more traffic or improving conversion first?

Improve conversion first. If your site converts at 1% and you double traffic, you've doubled your ad spend for the same result. Fix the leaks in the page and checkout before you pay to send more people through them.

Do AI product recommendations really move the needle for smaller stores?

Yes, but only once you have enough sales data for the recommendations to be relevant. A brand new store with ten orders won't see much benefit

The short version: Boosting eCommerce sales comes down to reducing friction at checkout, using data to personalise the shopping experience, and building trust through reviews and fast customer support. Small, consistent improvements to product pages and mobile speed often outperform big one-off campaigns.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to increase eCommerce sales?

Optimising your checkout process and reducing cart abandonment tends to bring the quickest results, since you are converting visitors who already intend to buy. Simplifying forms, offering guest checkout, and showing shipping costs early all help.

How important are product reviews for sales?

Very. Reviews build trust and answer questions potential buyers have before they commit, which can directly lift conversion rates. Displaying them prominently on product pages is a simple, effective tactic.

Does mobile optimisation really affect sales?

Yes, since a large share of shoppers now browse and buy on mobile devices. Slow load times or clunky mobile layouts push customers to abandon their cart before completing a purchase.

Should I focus on new customers or repeat customers?

Both matter, but repeat customers are usually cheaper to sell to and often spend more over time. A mix of acquisition efforts and loyalty or email marketing tends to work best for sustainable growth.
