10 best tools to automate your social media marketing

Social media marketing often involves a lot of repetitive daily tasks that consume a lot of your valuable time. Thankfully, there are lots of great social media marketing automation tools that can help you cut down on the time spent and even help you get better results for your marketing campaigns. In this blog post, I’m going to share the 10 best tools to help you automate your social media marketing – and save time and get more results for your business!

1.   Agorapulse

10 best tools to automate your social media marketing

If you’re looking for a tool that has social media automation features but also has the other tools needed for social media management, Agorapulse is a great option.

It’s a social media management tool at heart, but it has some very nifty automation features. For example, if you set up monitoring searches, you can also set rules so that Agorapulse automatically tags, flags, assign or deletes any matching queries. You can also do this for any mentions you get in your social inbox, so as to make your job easier when you have lots of mentions to go through every day.

In terms of publishing, you can easily schedule content and organise it in an editorial calendar and it also has an evergreen feature, where you select the times you want your updates to go out, add the content to the queue, and the tool will automatically re-publish them on a regular basis.

Agorapulse also automatically qualifies your followers, so that you can easily identify any brand ambassadors or influencers in your list.

2.    IFTTT

10 best tools to automate your social media marketing

IFTTT have numerous collections of so-called ‘applets’, all designed to make your life easier and in some cases, more fun. Since we’re talking about social media automation though, I’ll focus on those here.

There are 15 applets for social media that help you automate all kinds of tasks. For example, you can set it up so you save and share your Instagram photos across your other social media channels, automatically post tweets containing a certain hashtag to Facebook, share your new WordPress blog posts to your Facebook Page, sync your Instagram photos to a Pinterest board and much more.

What I love about IFTTT is that it’s not only a very useful tool (quick tip: check their tools for business owners as well), but it’s also quite fun to use.

3.    Post Planner

10 best tools to automate your social media marketing

Years ago, Post Planner used to be a Facebook tool with few features. Now though, it’s grown and evolved into a powerful social media tool, including great social media automation features.

You can use it to discover awesome content as well as to create content streams with your own content that the tool will automatically share for you. They have an algorithm that finds the best posting times, as well as automatically re-publishes your most popular content so you can make the most out of it.

What’s great is that Post Planner will automatically share the best content from your niche as well, so you can become a top content curator.

4.    Buffer

10 best tools to automate your social media marketing

Buffer helps you publish more and better content to your social profiles, automatically. You can add all of your content to their queue and then Buffer will automatically publish it at the best possible times, for maximum impact. It works with most major social networks, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn, and you can also use their other tool, Pablo, to create beautiful images to include in your scheduled social media updates.

5. MeetEdgar

10 best tools to automate your social media marketing

With MeetEdgar, you can schedule all of your social media content and organise it thoroughly by category. All you have to do it is create the categories and add the content to the queue. Then, you can use the content calendar to drag and drop each category to the times you want them to go out.

That way, MeetEdgar automatically re-publishes all of your content at the times you’ve set up, so that you’re never out of content to publish. What I like about MeetEdgar too is that it’s extremely well organized, which is a lot of help when you have lots of updates to add to multiple social networks.

They also provide follow back and auto-DM features for Twitter users, so called “mimic follow” where you can follow the same people as other users and you can create automated social updates from RSS feeds.

That’s not all they have, though – but it would probably take forever to go through their multitude of features.

Good article, very useful list. I use IFTTT and Zapier for content curation. It works fine for Twitter, but not for Facebook or Linkedin and they don’t connect with Google.
Using social media automation can save a whole lot of time, But one important aspect about automation is to make sure, your posts don’t look automatic. If your stream sounds like a robot, your community will engage less. The various networks provide very specific options to promote your posts and the communities react differently towards specific posting formats. While hashtags work fine for Twitter and Instagram, they result in less engagement on Facebook and LinkedIn. While Facebook followers prefer short comments, Google users engage better with longer posts.
Many automation tools don’t allow you to tailor your posts or customize your comments for each network. But pushing out the same format to all networks will miss those opportunities for engagement.
Check out Blog2Social http://www.blog2social.com. It’s a WordPress plugin to cross-promote your blog or website content. It gives you the option to auto-post your content, but also to individually customize and schedule your posts for each network – all in one easy step, so you still save a lot of time. This makes your posts more personal and engaging. I would love to hear what you think.

Thanks Melanie 🙂 I love IFTTT, they have some cool recipes!

Absolutely, it’s about getting the balance right between automation and real live engagement. Thanks for the heads up about Blog2Social, will check it out 🙂

Good article, Lilach. One thing I wanted to point out is that you can use tweetdeck to schedule posts instead of Buffer. Tweetdeck is free and is officially run by Twitter and doesn’t have any limits on the number of posts you can put up. The free version of buffer only allows 10.

If you’re into automating things you can also check out Tweet Pup. It’ll be able to automate your twitter interactions all day long so you don’t have to.

    • Lilach Bullock on 2018-01-04 at 9:01 pm

Thanks Jason. I must admit I find the paid tools much more effective, especially as you also get the analytics. With Buffer you have the ability to send at optimum times. With a limited budget/newbie Tweetdeck is a good solution 🙂

Great social media tools by Lilach. I am using buffer this time. I think it is a best tool for automation of facebook posts.

    • Lilach Bullock on 2018-03-10 at 10:33 am

Thanks Kate 🙂 Yes Buffer is a great automation tool. If you also use Instagram I recommend using Agorapulse 🙂
