Pinecone Research is a real market research panel, and its privacy policy says it's owned and run by The NielsenIQ Company (US), LLC and ROI Rocket. Members take surveys and product tests for rewards that build up towards gift cards. The catch is that invitations depend on your profile, and the site doesn't publish what each survey pays.
Pinecone Research has an old-school reputation among survey fans: fewer invitations than the big sites, but a name people tend to trust. Since I can't take a reputation at face value, I went to the panel's own home page, FAQ and privacy policy to see what's written down about who runs it, how it rewards members and where the limits are.
The company that runs Pinecone Research
The privacy policy says the panel is owned and run by The NielsenIQ Company (US), LLC and ROI Rocket, and it refers to the NielsenIQ group of companies. NielsenIQ is a well-known name in consumer measurement, so you're dealing with a recognised research business, not an anonymous survey page.
The home page describes the panel as an online community for households to share opinions about new products and services. That's a good clue to the style of work: it's product feedback, not general knowledge quizzes.
What Pinecone Research asks you to do
The FAQ says members receive invitations to surveys, quizzes, product tests and focus groups. Some product testing can be done at home. The FAQ also says some surveys begin with screener questions to confirm you qualify, so you can answer a few questions and still not be selected.
It stresses profiles. Completing your profiles helps you match more surveys, which is the nearest thing the site offers to a way of getting more invitations. Spend a little time on that before you judge the panel.
How Pinecone Research rewards you
The home page says each time you complete a survey, your reward is automatically and immediately added to your account. The FAQ says there's no limit to rewards: you can earn them for every survey you qualify for and complete, plus other activities like quizzes and completing your profile.
It's worth being clear on what isn't published. I couldn't find a per-survey amount or a typical survey length on the pages I read. Some third-party reviews quote figures, but I won't repeat them because I couldn't match them to an official page.
Cashing in your Pinecone Research rewards
According to the FAQ, once your rewards reach 10 dollars or more you can exchange them for a VISA gift card, an Amazon gift code or one of 1800 gift cards delivered by email. It also says some rewards are monetary while others are sweepstakes entries, and sweepstakes prizes come with a notification and redemption instructions.
So the route to cash is indirect. You build a balance, hit the threshold and swap it for a card. If you want money in your bank, this isn't a direct match.
Pinecone Research privacy and age rules
- The privacy policy says children under 18 may take part only with parental or guardian consent.
- The website and app aren't intended for anyone under 13.
- It says it doesn't and won't sell or share personal information to third parties for their own commercial use.
- Data may still go to clients in reports, service providers, affiliates and government authorities when legally required.
- Banking details are collected only to pay rewards.
The FAQ adds that only your opinions are shared, combined with other people's answers, and your name and personal details aren't passed on. That's a useful line to know, given how many personal questions household panels ask.
Pinecone Research scams and lookalikes
Because the name is trusted, scammers use it. A real panel doesn't ask you to pay for membership, buy a 'starter kit' or pay to receive survey invitations. Use only the address you typed yourself, and be careful with emails or texts that push you to click a sign-up link.

Getting the best from a household panel
Panels like this work differently from sites where you pick a survey from a long list. You wait for a match, so the people who do best are the ones who keep their details up to date, answer screener questions carefully and respond when an invitation lands. Check your account details and household information from time to time, because stale answers can mean you miss out.
I'd also keep expectations realistic. The FAQ lists products such as wearable technology, hygiene products, food, drinks and pet supplies as common categories, so invitations will lean towards everyday consumer goods. If that's your world, you'll find it interesting. If not, you may wait a while between invitations.

Should you join Pinecone Research?
It's a legitimate panel, and the main risk is wasted effort rather than lost money. Treat it as a bonus you check when an invitation appears, fill in your profiles, and don't expect it to replace a wage. My guide to paid survey sites for UK readers shows how it stacks up against other options.
