Gopuff pays delivery partners a fee for every order they deliver, shown upfront, and they keep 100% of their tips. Gopuff's help pages describe base pay set by the estimated time and effort of each trip, plus Missions and Wait Pay for scheduled partners. Its 2021 newsroom post put per-order fees at 2.25 to 5.00 US dollars.
Gopuff works differently from most delivery apps, and that's the first thing to understand about its pay. You don't drive between restaurants or shops. You collect every order from one Gopuff facility and return there after each drop. I've used Gopuff's own signup page, help centre and newsroom to explain how that model turns into pay.
How Gopuff pays its delivery partners
Gopuff's signup page puts it plainly: you get paid a transparent fee for every order you deliver, and you keep 100% of your tips. The pay is attached to each trip, so the more orders you complete in a shift, the more you earn.
Gopuff's help centre breaks that fee down into parts. According to its pay structure article:
- Base Pay is what you earn for every trip you accept and complete. Gopuff says it's set by the estimated time and effort the trip needs, and it's shown upfront in each offer.
- Missions are extra earning chances, usually for completing a certain number of deliveries in a set period, or a boost on each order.
- Wait Pay is for partners who schedule a block. Gopuff gives the example of a per-minute rate such as 0.20 US dollars per minute while you're waiting at the facility for an order.
Wait Pay is the unusual one. Most apps don't pay you for standing around, so if your local facility has slow patches, scheduling a block can protect some of that time.
What Gopuff has said about hourly earnings
The most specific figures Gopuff has published come from a newsroom post dated September 8, 2021. In it, Gopuff said delivery partners earn a fee for each order which generally ranges from 2.25 to 5.00 US dollars, and that the average U.S. delivery partner earns between 18 and 25 US dollars an hour. It also said partners who pre-arrange when they'll deliver are offered an earnings guarantee.
I'd treat those numbers with care. They're Gopuff's own words, but they're several years old, and pay structures in delivery apps change. The current help centre focuses on how pay is built rather than quoting an hourly average, so use the offers and the earnings screen in the app as your real guide. If a recruiter or a job listing quotes a number for your city, ask whether it includes tips and whether it assumes scheduled blocks, because both change the picture.
What changes your Gopuff pay
Because Gopuff pays per trip from a fixed base, your earnings swing on a few things you can see and partly control:
- Trip effort. Base pay follows the estimated time and effort, so longer or harder trips should show a higher fee.
- Order volume at your facility. More orders in your shift means more fees. A quiet facility means fewer.
- Scheduling. Booking a block can make you eligible for Wait Pay and, where Gopuff offers it, the earnings guarantee it described for pre-arranged hours.
- Missions. Hitting a delivery target in a set window adds to your pay on top of the base fee.
- Tips. These go to you in full, and they're on top of everything else.
Gopuff delivery partner requirements
Gopuff's US requirements are short but firm. According to its signup page, you must be at least 21 years or older, hold a valid U.S. driver's license, have a vehicle with insurance in your name, and have a smartphone with the most up-to-date operating system. In the UK the minimum age is 18, with different document and insurance rules.
The application itself, Gopuff says, involves signing a service agreement, providing documents, a background check and some Educational Sessions or Certifications. Where there's no waitlist, it typically takes 4-5 days, and up to 1 week depending on your location.
Costs and paperwork on Gopuff
The company describes its drivers as independently contracted delivery partners. That means fuel, insurance and your phone plan are your costs, and they come out of the fees you earn. The single pickup point can help here, because short trips from one hub tend to mean fewer empty miles than driving between restaurants.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Gopuff's driver pages I could read don't spell out payout timing or tax forms, so check the earnings section of the Gopuff Driver app once you're approved. Keep your own records of miles and fuel from day one, and ask an accountant how your Gopuff income should be reported.
If you're comparing gig apps, my guide to how Roadie sets pay for its parcel Gigs shows a very different pay model for longer trips.
Is Gopuff worth it for side income?
Gopuff suits people who like a predictable routine: one pickup point, short local trips and the option to schedule. The trade-off is that your pay leans heavily on how busy your facility is, and the published hourly figures are dated. My suggestion is to try a few scheduled blocks, note what you clear after fuel, and decide from your own numbers.
