YouTube doesn't set a fixed amount per 1,000 views in France: what you earn (your RPM) depends on where your viewers live, your topic and your ad formats, and you can see it in YouTube Studio. France is on both the standard and expanded YouTube Partner Program lists, and earnings are paid in euros by EFT, SEPA or wire once your balance reaches the 70 euro AdSense threshold.
France is one of the easier places in the world to earn from YouTube, at least on paper. The Partner Program is open, the lower 500 subscriber entry route is open, and your money can land in a euro bank account through SEPA. What YouTube won't tell you is a fixed amount per 1,000 views, because there isn't one. Here's what YouTube and Google do document for creators in France, and how to work out your own figure.
Two ways into the Partner Program for French channels
France sits on YouTube's list of places where you can sign up for the YouTube Partner Program, and it's also on the separate list for the expanded programme. That gives French creators two milestones:
| Milestone | What YouTube asks for | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded entry | 500 subscribers, 3 valid public uploads in the last 90 days, plus 3,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days | Fan funding, such as memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Super Thanks, plus Shopping |
| Ad revenue sharing | 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days | A share of the ads shown on your videos |
That first step matters more than people think. A French channel with a loyal community can start earning from memberships and Super Thanks well before it's big enough for ad money.
Mainland France versus the overseas departments
This is the bit that surprises French creators outside the mainland. YouTube lists France separately from French Guiana, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Reunion and New Caledonia, and the payment options differ. In YouTube's payment method table, mainland France gets EFT and wire transfer. Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion show cheque and wire but no EFT. French Guiana, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Mayotte show wire transfer only.
So if you're creating from Fort-de-France or Saint-Denis, don't assume the mainland setup applies to you. Check the payment options AdSense shows for your own address.
How euros reach a French creator's bank account
For mainland France, the usual route is EFT, an electronic transfer that puts your AdSense earnings straight into your bank account in your local currency. France is also on Google's list for SEPA payments, which deposit your earnings in euros. When you add your bank, Google sends a small test deposit of between 0.15 and 1.10 euros, which shows on your statement after 2 to 5 days. You confirm the amount in AdSense to verify the account.
The euro thresholds are worth knowing by heart. AdSense lists a payment threshold of 70 euros, so your balance needs to reach that before Google pays you. The payment method threshold and cancellation threshold are both 10 euros.
And the timing: your previous month's earnings are finalised on the 3rd. If your balance clears 70 euros and your payment details are in place by the 20th, the payment is issued between the 21st and the 26th. One trap: if you set up SEPA EFT after the 20th, Google says it can't promise you'll be paid by SEPA that month.
What drives RPM for an audience in France
RPM, revenue per mille, is YouTube's name for what you earn per 1,000 views after its revenue share. It folds in ads, memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and YouTube Premium revenue. CPM is a different number: what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions, before YouTube takes its cut. Because RPM counts every view, including unmonetised ones, it's always lower than CPM.
For French channels, a few patterns shape that number:
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
- Language and audience. French-language videos can reach viewers in Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and across francophone Africa. Each of those audiences attracts different advertiser demand, so your Geography report will explain a lot of RPM movement.
- Topic. Personal finance, property, software and travel planning tend to draw more ad competition than comedy or gaming.
- Format. Long videos can carry mid-roll ads, which YouTube lists as one way to raise RPM.
- Community income. Memberships and Super Chat count towards RPM, so engaged viewers lift it.
I'd ignore any website promising a precise French RPM. Open YouTube Studio, go to Analytics, then Revenue, and you'll see your own figure for any date range.
US tax forms for creators in France
Even a channel made entirely in French usually has some viewers in the US, and YouTube asks every creator outside the US to submit US tax info in AdSense. YouTube says withholding on US viewer earnings then ranges from 0 to 30%, depending on whether your country has a tax treaty with the US. France appears on the IRS list of US income tax treaties. If you skip the form, YouTube's default for individual accounts is 24% of your total earnings worldwide, which is a painful mistake.
I can only share what YouTube documents. How your YouTube income is taxed in France is a question for a French accountant.
Earning beyond ads in France
The French creators I see doing best treat ad revenue as one stream among several. Brand partnerships, affiliate links, paid workshops and their own products often outpace AdSense. If you're still deciding what to make, my guide to learning SEO from YouTube is a useful example of how a specialist niche can attract a valuable audience. And if you want to compare how a very different market handles payouts, I've written up YouTube earnings in Jamaica, where creators are paid by cheque, wire or Hyperwallet instead of EFT.
French creator checklist
- Aim for 500 subscribers first to open fan funding, then 1,000 for ad revenue.
- Set up AdSense for YouTube and add your bank before the 20th of the month.
- Confirm the test deposit amount once it lands.
- Submit your US tax info so treaty rules can apply.
- Check RPM and Geography in YouTube Studio every month.

AdSense lists a payment threshold of 70 euros. Your balance must reach it before Google issues a payment.
How do French YouTubers get paid?

How much does YouTube pay for 1,000 views in France?
YouTube doesn't publish a figure for France. Your RPM depends on where your viewers live, your topic and your ad formats, and you can see it in YouTube Studio Analytics.
Do creators based in France need to fill in US tax info?
YouTube asks creators outside the US to submit it. France is on the IRS treaty list, and YouTube says withholding on US earnings ranges from 0 to 30% depending on treaties. A local accountant can advise on French tax.
