YouTube doesn't publish a per 1,000 view rate for Jamaica, but Jamaica is on the YouTube Partner Program list, so you can earn ad revenue once you reach 1,000 subscribers and the watch time or Shorts views YouTube requires. What you earn per 1,000 views (your RPM) depends mostly on where your viewers are, and the money reaches Jamaica by cheque, wire transfer or PayPal Hyperwallet.
If you're a Jamaican creator wondering what 1,000 views will put in your pocket, I'll give you the straight version first. YouTube doesn't publish a rate for Jamaica, or for any country. What it does publish is whether you can join the YouTube Partner Program where you live, how the money is sent to you, and how to see your own earnings per 1,000 views. The good news for Jamaica is that the door is open. The catch is that one of the newer, easier entry routes isn't listed for the island, so your first milestone is a bigger one.
Jamaica is on the YouTube Partner Program list
YouTube keeps an official list of the places where you can sign up for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), and Jamaica is on it. That matters, because one of YouTube's eligibility rules is that you live in a country or region where the programme is available. Without that, no amount of views would earn you a share of the ad money.
The other rules are the same for everyone: follow YouTube's channel monetisation policies, have no active Community Guidelines strikes, turn on 2-Step Verification for your Google Account, have advanced features access and link one active AdSense for YouTube account to your channel.
Why Jamaican channels need the 1,000 subscriber route
Here's the detail most guides miss. YouTube runs an expanded version of the Partner Program in a long list of countries, where creators can join with 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days and either 3,000 watch hours in the last 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. That entry level unlocks fan funding such as memberships and Super Thanks, plus Shopping features.
Jamaica isn't on that expanded list. YouTube says that if you're not in one of those countries, there are no changes to the Partner Program for you. In plain terms, Jamaican channels work towards the standard bar, which YouTube sets at 1,000 subscribers with either 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. It's a higher hill to climb, so I'd plan for it from day one rather than being surprised later.
Getting YouTube money into Jamaica: cheque, wire or Hyperwallet
Once you're in, your earnings sit in AdSense until they're paid out. YouTube's own payment table shows three routes for Jamaica: cheque, wire transfer and PayPal Hyperwallet. Electronic funds transfer (EFT) is marked as not available, which is a key difference from many other countries.
| Payment route | Available in Jamaica? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Cheque | Yes | AdSense says a cheque can take as long as four weeks to arrive |
| Wire transfer | Yes | AdSense says to allow up to 15 business days |
| PayPal Hyperwallet | Yes | You activate a Hyperwallet account before you can be paid |
| EFT to a bank account | No | Not offered for Jamaica in YouTube's table |
Two more things worth knowing. The Jamaican dollar (JMD) doesn't appear in the AdSense payment threshold table, so I can't point you to a published threshold in Jamaican dollars. For comparison, the US dollar row shows a payment threshold of 100 US dollars. Check the Payments page inside your own AdSense account, because that's where Google shows the threshold and currency that apply to you. And AdSense pays on a monthly cycle: earnings are finalised on the 3rd, your balance must clear the threshold by the 20th, and payments go out between the 21st and the 26th.
What sets the rate per 1,000 views for a Jamaican channel
The number you're after is called RPM, revenue per mille. YouTube defines it as what you've earned per 1,000 video views, after YouTube's revenue share. It isn't the same as CPM, which is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before that share comes out. RPM is usually lower because it counts every view, including the ones where no ad played.
For a Jamaican creator, a few things move that figure more than anything else:
- Where your viewers are. Advertisers pay based on the viewer, not the creator. If a big slice of your audience is in the US, the UK or Canada, the ads shown to them are often worth more than ads shown to viewers on the island.
- Your niche. Topics close to buying decisions, such as money, travel planning or tech, attract more advertiser competition than pure entertainment.
- Shorts or long videos. Long videos can carry mid-roll ads once they're long enough, and YouTube lists turning on mid-rolls as one way to lift RPM.
- Other revenue. RPM also includes memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers and YouTube Premium revenue, so a loyal community can raise it.
Your own RPM lives in YouTube Studio under Analytics, on the Revenue tab. I'd look at it alongside the Geography report, because that tells you which countries your views come from and explains most of the swings.

US tax withholding and Jamaican creators
Many Jamaican channels have a large audience in the US, so this part matters. YouTube says that for creators outside the US who submit their US tax info, withholding on earnings from US viewers falls between 0 and 30%, depending on whether your country has a tax treaty with the US. Jamaica appears on the IRS list of US income tax treaties. If you don't submit tax info at all, YouTube's default is far harsher: 24% of total worldwide earnings for individual accounts.
I'm not a tax adviser, so please treat this as what YouTube documents, not advice. Fill in the tax form in AdSense, then talk to a local accountant about what you owe at home.
Building income in Jamaica while you grow
Because the bar to join is the standard one, most Jamaican creators earn from other places first. Brand deals with local businesses, tourism partners and diaspora brands can pay before YouTube ever does. Your own products, such as a guide, a course or merch, work at any size. If you're still finding your format, my list of faceless channel ideas that can make money is a good place to start, and creators in East Africa face a similar question, which I cover in what YouTube pays creators in Tanzania.
Your Jamaica checklist
- Confirm your channel country is set to Jamaica in YouTube Studio settings.

- Work towards 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views.
- Set up AdSense for YouTube and choose cheque, wire or Hyperwallet.
- Submit your US tax info so the treaty rate can apply.
- Watch your RPM and Geography reports monthly to see what's working.
Frequently asked questions
Can I monetise a YouTube channel from Jamaica?
Yes. Jamaica is on YouTube's list of places where you can sign up for the YouTube Partner Program, as long as you meet the other eligibility rules and link an AdSense for YouTube account.
Can Jamaican creators join YPP with 500 subscribers?
Not on YouTube's current lists. The 500 subscriber expanded programme isn't listed for Jamaica, so the standard route of 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 watch hours or 10 million Shorts views applies.
How do I get paid from YouTube in Jamaica?
YouTube's payment table lists cheque, wire transfer and PayPal Hyperwallet for Jamaica. EFT straight to a local bank account isn't offered there.
How much does YouTube pay for 1,000 views in Jamaica?
YouTube doesn't publish a Jamaica rate. Your RPM depends mostly on where your viewers are, your niche and your ad formats, and you can see your own figure in YouTube Studio Analytics.
Do Jamaican YouTubers pay US tax?
YouTube may withhold tax on earnings from US viewers. It says the rate is between 0 and 30% depending on tax treaties, and Jamaica appears on the IRS treaty list. Ask a local accountant about your own position.
