How Much Does YouTube Pay per 1,000 Views in Tanzania?

YouTube doesn't publish a rate for Tanzania: what you earn per 1,000 views is your own RPM, set by your viewers' countries, your niche and video length. Tanzania is in the YouTube Partner Program for ads and Premium revenue, but not the expanded tier, Super Chat or memberships, and Google pays by wire or cheque.

Tanzania is a halfway house on YouTube, and that shapes everything about how creators in Dar es Salaam, Arusha or Mwanza earn. You can join the Partner Program and share in ad revenue, but several of YouTube's other money tools haven't reached Tanzania yet. As for a rate per 1,000 views, YouTube doesn't publish one for Tanzania or anywhere else, so I won't make one up. Here's what's documented and what it means for your channel.

Next door in Uganda, every one of the first five rows is a yes. In Tanzania, your YouTube income comes almost entirely from ads and Premium viewers, which makes the size and quality of your audience matter even more.

The only route in: the full Partner Program threshold

Because Tanzania isn't on the expanded programme list, there's no lower 500-subscriber stage for Tanzanian channels. You go straight for the full requirements:

  • 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months, or
  • 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.
  • Plus one active AdSense for YouTube account, created inside YouTube Studio and linked to your channel.

Watch hours from Shorts in the Shorts Feed don't count towards the 4,000 hours, so if you're chasing the watch-time route, long videos do the heavy lifting.

How YouTube works out your earnings per 1,000 views in Tanzania

RPM is the measure you want. Google describes it as how much you've earned per 1,000 video views, calculated after YouTube's revenue share, and it includes every view, monetised or not. The advertiser's side is CPM, the cost per 1000 ad impressions before the split, which Google says moves with the season, viewer geography and available ad formats.

For a Tanzanian channel, the mix of viewers is the big variable. Swahili content can find viewers in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and beyond, and English content can reach international audiences. Each country has its own level of advertiser demand, so two channels with the same views can earn very different amounts.

Habits that help Tanzanian channels earn more per view

  • Favour longer videos, since they count towards watch hours and carry more ads.
  • Choose subjects that advertisers care about: business, farming and agribusiness, education, phones and tech, travel and tourism.
  • Keep videos advertiser-friendly so fewer views go unmonetised.
  • Check YouTube Analytics to see which countries your viewers are in, and make more of what they watch.
  • Review your RPM in the Revenue tab every month.

Receiving YouTube payments in Tanzania

Google's payment methods table lists cheque and wire transfer for AdSense for YouTube accounts in Tanzania. EFT and Hyperwallet aren't offered. Wire transfer to a Tanzanian bank account is the route I'd pick, and Google requires the bank to be in the same country as the address in your payment settings.

There's no Tanzanian shilling (TZS) row in Google's AdSense threshold table. The US dollar payment threshold on that table is 100, and address verification starts at 10 US dollars or the local equivalent. Your own AdSense payments page confirms the threshold and currency that apply, and your bank handles conversion into shillings.

US withholding on a Tanzanian channel

Google withholds US tax only on the slice of your earnings that comes from viewers in the United States, provided you've submitted tax info. Tanzania isn't on the IRS list of countries with a US income tax treaty, and YouTube's example shows 30% withheld on US viewer earnings for creators who submit tax info but aren't treaty-eligible.

Without tax info, an individual account can lose 24% of total worldwide earnings, so submitting it matters most for channels whose viewers are mainly outside the US. For anything about your Tanzanian tax return, check with a local accountant. I can only describe what the platform says.

Shorts money in Tanzania

Shorts earnings come from a monthly pool of Shorts Feed ad revenue, split by engaged views in each country. Monetising creators keep 45% of their allocation, and adding music doesn't reduce that share. Shorts are excellent for growth in Tanzania, but they usually pay less per view than long videos, so use them to point people to your longer content.

Filling the gap without Super Chat or memberships

Because fan funding tools aren't open in Tanzania, I'd build income outside YouTube alongside the ad share:

  1. Brand deals with Tanzanian businesses, mobile money and telecoms brands, safari and travel firms, or fashion labels that want your audience.
  2. Your own products: courses, music, merch or consulting, sold through your own links.
  3. Affiliate links in descriptions, where a programme accepts creators in Tanzania.
  4. A website or blog that grows alongside the channel.

If you want to compare, I've written about YouTube income for creators in Uganda, where fan funding is open, and the situation in Ethiopia, where the Partner Program isn't available at all. For help making videos people find through search, try these SEO lessons on YouTube.

Frequently asked questions

Is YouTube monetisation available in Tanzania?

Yes. Tanzania is on YouTube's Partner Program availability list, so Tanzanian channels that meet the requirements can earn from ads and YouTube Premium.

How much does YouTube pay per 1,000 views in Tanzania?

YouTube doesn't publish a Tanzanian rate. Your RPM depends on where your viewers are, your language and niche, video length and season, and you'll find it in YouTube Analytics.

Can Tanzanian creators use Super Chat or channel memberships?

Not at the moment. Tanzania isn't on the Super Chat and Super Stickers list or the channel memberships list, and it isn't on the expanded programme list.

How do YouTubers in Tanzania get paid?

Google lists cheque and wire transfer for AdSense for YouTube in Tanzania. Most creators use wire transfer to a Tanzanian bank in the same country as their payment address.

Do I need 500 or 1,000 subscribers in Tanzania?

1,000. The lower expanded tier isn't available in Tanzania, so you need the full Partner Program thresholds.
