Is Rebag Legit? Selling and Buying Luxury Bags (2026)

Yes, Rebag is a legit luxury resale company, started in 2014 by Charles Gorra, that buys designer bags, watches and jewellery and resells them online and in its own US stores. It checks every item in-house before listing and refunds a bag a verified authenticator finds inauthentic. The catch is a short return window, a return fee for most buyers, and offers below what you paid.

Rebag comes up whenever someone has a designer handbag sitting in a wardrobe and wants it turned into something useful. I've gone through Rebag's own selling, store, wallet and help pages so you can see how it works from both ends: handing over a bag for an offer, and buying a pre-owned one. Here's what the company itself says, and where I'd slow down.

Who is behind Rebag and what it does

Rebag isn't a peer-to-peer app where strangers list things for each other. According to TechCrunch, founder and CEO Charles Gorra left Rent the Runway to start Rebag in 2014, and the business went on to raise 25 million US dollars in a Series C round led by Novator, taking its total funding to 52 million US dollars at that point. That's a venture-backed company with offices and staff, not a one-person shop.

Its model is simple to explain. Rebag buys luxury pieces from people, checks them, and resells them under its own name. Its sell page lists bags, watches, accessories, jewelry and shoes as the categories it takes. You're dealing with Rebag the whole way through, which is very different from buying from an anonymous seller on a classifieds app.

It also has a physical footprint. Rebag's store page lists 13 locations across California, Florida, Nevada, New Jersey and New York, including New York City, Miami, Las Vegas and San Diego. If you'd rather hand a bag to a person than post it, that's a real option in those states.

How the Clair tool values your bag at Rebag

The tool Rebag uses to price what you're selling is called Clair. The sell page breaks it into three steps:

  1. Find your item. Identify it with AI, search for the model, or submit an image.
  2. Tell its history. Add basic details such as the model, the material and the condition.
  3. Reveal its value. For most styles you get an instant offer. For others, Rebag says you'll get a quote by email within 2 business days.

That instant offer is the big draw. You don't write a listing, take a dozen photos or answer questions from buyers. Rebag takes on that work, which is exactly why its offer will sit below the price you'd hope for if you sold the bag yourself. Its sell page also mentions a Most Wanted list, and says pieces on it get the best offers.

If you'd rather do the listing work and keep more of the sale, a self-listed route makes more sense, and my guide to what eBay takes from each sale shows the fees you'd be weighing up instead.

Getting paid by Rebag: the Wallet explained

This is the part people trip over. Rebag's Wallet help article says all Seller Funds from your sales land in your Rebag Wallet first, rather than going straight to your bank. From there you choose what to do with them.

  • Cash out by bank transfer. You pick Cash Out in the Wallet, choose a bank account and confirm with a verification code. Rebag says transfers typically reflect within one business day, though your bank can add its own processing time.
  • Cash out by check. Checks are mailed by a third party and take 2-7 business days, according to the same article.
  • Leave the funds in the Wallet. Rebag says Seller Funds grow 1% each month for up to 12 months, stopping when you withdraw.
  • Spend it at Rebag. Using Seller Funds on a Rebag purchase earns a 10% Spending Bonus at checkout.

The Wallet article says withdrawals have no added fees. Those growth and spending bonuses are clever, because they nudge you to keep the money inside Rebag. That's fine if you plan to trade up to another bag, but if you need the cash, take it out and don't let the bonus decide for you.

Buying a pre-owned bag from Rebag safely

For buyers, the key question is authenticity. Rebag's Authenticity help article says every item goes through an in-house multilayered evaluation by its authentication experts before it's approved and listed. It also says that if a buyer's item is found inauthentic by a verified authenticator, Rebag will give a full refund when the bag is returned.

That's a meaningful promise, and it's stronger than anything you'd get buying from a stranger. Still, it's Rebag's own check, so keep your receipt, the tags and every email in case you ever need to use that refund.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Read the returns rules before you buy, because they're tight. Rebag's returns article says US returns must be requested online through your Rebag.com account within 7 days of purchase or delivery. The item has to be in the condition described, with the original Rebag tags still on, and it must ship back from a US address. You can't return in a store, international returns aren't accepted, and Final Sale items can't be returned at all. Most buyers also pay a per-item return fee that rises with the price of the bag; Rebag+ members don't.

The catch with selling or buying through Rebag

  • Offers reflect convenience. Rebag carries the risk and the work, so you'll usually get less than a private sale might bring.
  • Money sits in the Wallet first. Plan for the extra step of cashing out if you need the funds in your bank.
  • Short return window. Seven days goes fast, so inspect a new bag the day it arrives.
  • Return fees. Unless you're a Rebag+ member, sending something back isn't free.
  • Final Sale means final. Check the product page before you check out.

If you sell a lot of designer pieces, think about tax as well. Clearing out your own wardrobe is different from buying to resell, so talk to an accountant or your tax office about your own situation.

Copycats that use Rebag's name

Luxury bags attract scammers, and a well-known name like Rebag is easy to borrow. Watch for fake social media accounts promising huge offers, messages asking you to send a bag to a private address, or emails asking you to confirm bank details through a link. Rebag's own Wallet asks for a verification code inside your account when you cash out, so do everything from the Rebag website or app you've typed in yourself.

The same habits help when you're selling elsewhere too. If you list items on a handmade or vintage site, my set of prompts for writing Etsy product descriptions can save you time, but never move a sale off the platform to get it done.

Is Rebag worth it? My verdict

Rebag is a legit, established business. For sellers, it trades some of your bag's value for speed and zero hassle, and you'll know your offer in minutes for most styles. For buyers, its in-house checks and inauthentic-item refund give real reassurance, as long as you respect the seven-day return window and read the Final Sale label. Go in knowing the trade-offs and it's a sensible option.
