How to Log Out of Snapchat (and Remove Your Saved Login)

To log out of Snapchat, go to My Account, tap the gear icon, scroll to the bottom of Settings and tap Log Out. If you saved your login, your account stays on the yellow login screen, so tap Remove account there on any shared phone.

Logging out of Snapchat sounds like a one-tap job, and most of the time that's true. The bit that catches people out is what happens next: your account can sit on the login screen waiting for anyone to tap it, and you might still get the odd notification. If you've borrowed a friend's phone, sold an old handset or share a work device with your team, that matters.

In this guide I'll show you where the Log Out button lives, how to remove your saved login so nobody else can get back in with one tap, and how to sign out of other phones and browsers remotely. The steps follow Snapchat's official help articles on login information, session management and logged-out notifications.

How to log out of Snapchat on your phone

Snapchat keeps the Log Out option at the very bottom of Settings:

  1. Open Snapchat and tap your profile icon to go to My Account.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top corner to open Settings.
  3. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list.
  4. Tap Log Out and confirm.

The steps are the same on iPhone and Android. Before you tap that last button, check that your Memories have finished backing up. Snapchat's help centre warns that Memories which weren't backed up can't be recovered, so give it a moment on a good Wi-Fi connection first.

Remove your saved Snapchat login after logging out

When you log in, Snapchat may ask whether you want to save your login information. If you said yes, your account appears on the yellow login screen after you log out, ready for one-tap login. That's handy on your own phone and risky on anyone else's.

Snapchat's help article on adding or removing login information explains how to clear it:

  1. Log out of Snapchat on that device.
  2. On the yellow screen that appears, find your account.
  3. Tap Remove account underneath it.

On a shared phone or a friend's device, Snapchat suggests you simply say no when it offers to save your login. That way there's nothing left behind to remove.

How to log out of Snapchat on other devices

If you think you're still signed in somewhere else, an old phone, a laptop at work, a tablet at home, you don't need that device in your hand. Snapchat's Session Management tool shows every device and browser where your account is currently signed in.

From the Snapchat app

  1. Open Settings from My Account.
  2. Tap My Account, then Session Management.
  3. Tap the X next to the device or browser you want to sign out.

From a web browser

  1. Go to accounts.snapchat.com and sign in.
  2. Open Session Management.
  3. Click Log Out next to the session you want to end.

Snapchat notes two quirks. Only active sessions appear on the list, so saved login details on a device won't show up there. And a session may stay active for a while after you end it, so don't panic if it doesn't vanish instantly.

Logging out of Snapchat for Web

Snapchat for Web has its own rule: you can only be logged in on one computer at a time. Logging in on a second computer automatically logs you out of the first. If you've been using a shared office computer, either log out there directly or end that browser session from Session Management on your phone.

Why Snapchat still sends notifications after you log out

This one confuses lots of people. Snapchat's help article on logged-out notifications explains that you may still get a limited number of push reminders if your account stays on the login screen for one-tap login and your device allows Snapchat notifications.

  • The reminders are generic, about things like unread messages or friends' Stories, and they don't show private message content or who sent a Snap.
  • They stop when you sign back in.
  • If you stay logged out, Snapchat says they stop automatically after about 28 days.
  • To stop them straight away, remove your account from the login screen or turn off Snapchat notifications in your phone's settings.

Snapchat also says that tapping one of these reminders may sign you back in with one-tap login. On a shared device, that's one more reason to remove your saved login.

If you see a Snapchat session you don't recognise

Session Management is a handy security check. Snapchat's advice is clear: if there's a device or browser you don't recognise, log it out straight away, follow its steps for a compromised account and change your password. For a phone that's lost or stolen, Snapchat also suggests going to your Two-Factor Authentication settings and using Forget Devices so it's unlinked from your account.

If you can't get back in yourself after a security scare, check whether Snapchat is having problems right now before assuming the worst, then use the help centre's account recovery options.

Logging out of Snapchat versus deleting your account

Logging out only ends your session on one device. Your friends, chats, Memories and Snap Map settings all stay just as you left them, and you can log back in whenever you like.

Deleting your account is a different and much bigger step. If you've decided you want to leave Snapchat for good, I've written a separate guide on how to delete your Snapchat account.

What you wantWhat to do
Sign out of this phoneSettings, scroll to the bottom, Log Out
Stop one-tap login on this phoneLog out, then Remove account on the yellow screen
Sign out of another deviceSession Management, then X or Log Out
Lost or stolen phoneEnd the session, change your password, Forget Devices
Leave Snapchat for goodDelete your account instead

Logging out of a Snapchat business or team account

If you run a brand account and more than one person posts from it, log out of shared devices at the end of each shift and remove the saved login. Check Session Management every so often and end anything that belongs to someone who no longer helps with the account. Then change the password, so access matches your current team.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the Log Out button on Snapchat?

Open My Account, tap the gear icon to open Settings, scroll to the very bottom and tap Log Out.

Can I log out of Snapchat on another phone remotely?

Yes. Go to Settings, My Account, Session Management and tap the X next to the device, or use Session Management at accounts.snapchat.com and click Log Out.

Why is my account still on the login screen after logging out?

You saved your login information. Log out, then tap Remove account under your account on the yellow screen to take it off that device.

Why do I get Snapchat notifications when I'm logged out?

Snapchat says limited reminders can continue if your account stays on the login screen and notifications are allowed. They stop when you sign in, or after about 28 days logged out.

Will logging out delete my Snapchat chats or Memories?

No. Logging out only ends the session on that device. Snapchat does suggest making sure your Memories are fully backed up first.
