Vinted takes nothing from sellers: there are no selling fees, so in the UK you keep the full sale price. The buyer pays the Vinted fee (formerly the Buyer Protection fee) at checkout, usually 3% to 8% of the price plus 0.3 to 0.8 pounds. Sellers only pay if they choose extras such as bumps or Showcase.
Vinted turns the usual resale model on its head. Instead of the seller giving up a percentage, the buyer pays a fee on top of the price. That's great news if you're clearing out a wardrobe, but it changes how you should price, and it's why buyers sometimes haggle harder than you'd expect. Here's what Vinted's UK help centre and price list say.
Vinted has no selling fees for sellers
Vinted's help centre states it plainly: there are no selling fees on Vinted. When someone buys your item through the Buy now button, the price you agreed is what lands in your Vinted Balance once the order completes. Vinted doesn't deduct a commission or a payment processing charge from your side.
This is the biggest difference between Vinted and most selling apps, and it's why many UK sellers use it for everyday clothes. The trade-off is on the buyer's side, which is worth understanding before you set your prices.
The Vinted fee that buyers pay
The fee buyers pay at checkout used to be called the Buyer Protection fee. Vinted is renaming it the Vinted fee, and says this isn't a new or extra fee, and the way it's worked out isn't changing. You may still see both names in different parts of the app for a while.
According to Vinted's UK help centre and price list, the fee usually includes a percentage of the item's or bundle's price plus a fixed amount, typically 3% to 8% plus 0.3 to 0.8 pounds. The exact amount depends on the item, the order value and whether it's a single item or a bundle. The fee includes VAT and shows in the price breakdown on each listing and at checkout.
Vinted says the fee helps cover the platform, member support, secure payments and its refund policy when an item from a non-professional seller is lost, damaged or significantly not as described.
What the Vinted buyer fee means for your pricing
Buyers see the total, not just your price. On a low-priced item, the fixed part of the fee is a noticeable share of what they pay, so a buyer may offer a little less to make up for it. A few things help:
- Bundles. Vinted works the fee out on the bundle as a whole, so encouraging bundles can make a bigger order more attractive to buyers.
- Realistic prices. Look at similar items and remember the buyer's total will be higher than your tag.
- Clear photos and descriptions. The refund policy applies when an item is significantly not as described, so accuracy protects your sale.
Optional Vinted costs for sellers
The only money sellers hand over is for optional visibility services listed on Vinted's UK price list:
- Bumping listed items. A bump lasts 3 or 7 calendar days, and the fee depends on the duration and the item price. You'll see the exact amount at payment.
- Showcase. The fee and duration are shown at checkout before you pay.
Vinted doesn't publish a fixed bump fee because it varies by item, so check the amount in the app each time. My view: a bump makes sense for a piece that's had views but no buyer, not for every new listing.
Buyers can also choose paid extras that don't affect you, such as Item Verification at 10 pounds and Electronics Verification at 5 pounds.
When Vinted pays sellers
Vinted's Getting paid page explains that an order completes when the buyer presses Everything is OK, or 2 days after they receive it without confirming or reporting a problem. You then receive the payment within 2 days, and it moves from Pending balance to Available balance.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
Orders from Pro sellers work differently. They complete automatically 14 days after receipt, because of the buyer's legal right of withdrawal.
Withdrawing money from your Vinted Balance
- Withdrawals to your bank can take up to 5 business days, excluding weekends and bank holidays.
- You can only withdraw in pounds sterling, to an account with an account number and sort code.
- The minimum withdrawal is 0.10 pounds.
- You'll need biometrics or a verified phone number, and the payment provider may ask for an identity check.
- You can't use the same bank account for more than one Vinted account, or the withdrawals will fail.
- Any earnings left in your balance are used automatically when you buy on Vinted.
Vinted, HMRC and tax on your sales
Under the UK reporting rules for digital platforms, Vinted shares seller information with HMRC. Its help centre says it will contact you automatically if you complete 30 sales or more, or sell over about 1,700 pounds (2000 euros), within the calendar year. If you don't hear from Vinted, you don't need to do anything.
Vinted is clear that completing a seller report doesn't mean you owe tax. It says selling your own personal items is generally not taxed, and that an individual item might only be taxable if it sells for more than 6,000 pounds at a profit, with a capital gains allowance of 3,000 pounds. If you buy things to resell, GOV.UK says you may need to register for Self Assessment once your trading income goes over 1,000 pounds before expenses in a tax year. For your own situation, check GOV.UK or speak to an accountant.
If you're weighing Vinted against an app that charges sellers, compare it with what Depop keeps from each sale. And if you're turning a clear-out into a side income, my thoughts on passive income from digital products might give you a second string to your bow.
