To add an admin to a Facebook Page, switch into the Page, open Settings, then Page setup and Page access, click Add New under People with Facebook access, find the person and turn on full control. In the current Pages experience, full control is what used to be called admin, so only give it to someone you trust.
Every business Page should have more than one person who can get into it. I've seen owners lose their Page because the only admin left the business, lost their personal account or simply forgot their login. Adding a second admin takes a couple of minutes and saves a world of stress later.
One thing that confuses people: Facebook doesn't call them admins any more in the current Pages experience. You give someone Facebook access to the Page, either with full control (the old admin) or without it, or you give them task access for specific jobs. This guide follows Facebook's Help Centre articles Give, edit or remove Facebook Page access and About Facebook Page access. Menus vary by app version, and some older Pages still show the classic Page roles screen.
Facebook Page access levels explained
| Access type | What they can do | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook access with full control | Everything you can do, including managing access and deleting the Page | A co-owner or trusted business partner |
| Facebook access without full control | Switch into the Page and manage content, messages and more, but not access or deletion | Staff who post and reply day to day |
| Task access | Specific jobs, such as content, messages, insights or ads, from tools like Meta Business Suite, without switching into the Page | A freelancer or agency doing one job |
Facebook's help page is blunt about full control: it gives someone the same access as you, which means they can give others access, remove anyone from the Page, including you, or delete the Page. Only give it to people you'd trust with the keys to your business.
Add an admin to your Facebook Page on a computer
You need Facebook access with full control yourself to do this.
- Switch into your Page from your profile picture at the top right.
- Click your Page's profile picture again, then Settings and privacy, then Settings.
- Find Page setup and click Page access.
- Next to People with Facebook access, click Add New, then Next.
- Search for the person by name or email and select them.
- Turn on full control if you want them to be a full admin. Leave it off for everyday access.
- Click Give access, then enter your password to confirm.
Facebook sends the person an invitation, and their access starts once they accept it.
Add a Facebook Page admin from the app
- Switch into the Page in the Facebook app.
- Tap the menu (your Page's profile picture or the three lines).
- Tap Settings and privacy, then Settings.
- Tap Page setup, then Page access.
- Tap Add new under People with Facebook access.
- Search for the person, choose whether to allow full control and tap Give access.
- Confirm with your password.
If the person doesn't appear in search, check you've got the right name or try their email address. Some guides suggest they may need to be your Facebook friend before they show up.
Giving task access to a Facebook Page instead of full access
Task access suits someone who only needs one part of the Page, such as replying to messages or reading insights. In the same Page access screen, look for the section for people with task access and add them there, then pick the tasks. They manage those tasks from tools like Meta Business Suite and can't switch into the Page itself. If your Page is owned by a business portfolio, Facebook's business help pages say the people and access are managed from the portfolio's settings instead.
How to remove someone from your Facebook Page
- Go back to Settings, then Page setup, then Page access.
- Find the person under Facebook access or task access.
- Click or tap the three dots next to their name.
- Choose Remove access, or Edit access to change their level.
- Confirm with your password if asked.
Facebook's help page says a Page must always have at least one person with Facebook access with full control. If nobody's left with full control, the Page is deactivated and scheduled for deletion. So before you remove anyone, make sure another trusted full-control person stays on.

Classic Facebook Pages and the old Page roles screen
If your Page hasn't moved to the newer experience, you'll see Page roles under Settings instead of Page access. There, you assign a role such as Admin or Editor to the person. Facebook says Classic Pages are updating to the new Pages experience, so this screen is gradually disappearing.
My Facebook Page access habits for small businesses
- Keep two people with full control: you and one other person you trust completely.
- Give staff Facebook access without full control, not full admin rights.
- Use task access for freelancers and agencies, and remove it when the work ends.
- Review the Page access list every few months and remove anyone who's left.
- Turn on two-factor authentication on every personal account that has access.
If you're still setting the Page up, start with my guide on how to create a Facebook business Page, then add your second admin straight away.
If you can't add an admin to the Facebook Page
- Check your own access. Only people with Facebook access with full control can add or remove others.
- Make sure you've switched into the Page before opening settings.
- Ask the person to check notifications and email for the invitation, because nothing changes until they accept.
- If the Page sits in a business portfolio, manage access there instead.
- Update the app or try a computer if Page access doesn't appear.

What happens if a Page has no one with full control?
Facebook says the Page is deactivated and scheduled for deletion, so always keep at least one full-control person.
