How Much Does Instagram Pay in Canada?

Instagram doesn't pay Canadian creators a fixed amount per view, but Canada is one of the first countries Meta named for Reels gifts and for its brand-matching creator tool, so Canadian accounts can earn from fans and from brand campaigns. What you earn depends on gifts, any subscription or bonus invite in your Professional Dashboard, and the brand deals you price yourself in Canadian dollars.

Canadian creators sit in a better spot than most people realise. When Meta rolls out a new way to earn on Instagram, Canada is usually in the first wave after the United States. That doesn't mean a cheque arrives for every Reel view, though, and I'd rather you heard that from me than from a disappointed glance at your dashboard.

Canada is near the front of the queue for Instagram money tools

Two announcements from Meta's newsroom tell the story. When gifts on Reels launched beyond the US, Meta said they'd expand to Australia, Canada, France, Mexico, New Zealand and the UK. Fans buy Stars inside the app and send them to creators whose Reels they enjoy. Later, Meta said its Instagram brand-matching hub, a tool that helps brands find creators for paid campaigns, would invite creators and brands based in Canada, alongside Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Japan, India and Brazil.

Gifts come with conditions. Meta says you need a professional account, must be over 18, must meet its Partner Monetization Policies and need at least 5,000 followers. Subscriptions, where fans pay monthly for extra content, have their own invite and eligibility checks, and Meta's creator site says subscription payouts arrive on the 21st of the following month.

Bonuses are the tool most people mean when they ask about pay per view. They're limited-time and invite-only. Meta's most recent named bonus test went to creators in the United States, South Korea and Japan, so treat any Canadian bonus as a nice surprise rather than a plan.

Why a Canadian Instagram audience is worth paying for

DataReportal reports that Meta's ad tools showed 21.0 million Instagram users in Canada in late 2025, equal to 52.2 percent of the population. Around 62.5 percent of Canadian adults were on it, and the potential ad reach grew by 2.05 million, or 10.8 percent, over the year. The adult ad audience was 53.5 percent female and 44.5 percent male.

Those figures explain why Canadian brands, from Toronto skincare labels to Vancouver outdoor gear shops, put real budgets into creators. A brand selling in Canada pays for Canadian eyes, so your audience location screen in Insights is one of your strongest negotiating tools.

The news block every Canadian creator should know about

Here's something unique to Canada. After the Online News Act received royal assent, Meta blocked news content for users in Canada on Facebook and Instagram, including links to news stories and news organisations' accounts.

If you create news commentary or current affairs content, that changes your plans. Sharing news links won't reach Canadian followers the way it once did, so build your posts around your own analysis, visuals and voice. For lifestyle, food, fitness or business creators it barely matters, but it's worth knowing before you build a channel on headlines.

Disclosure rules from Ad Standards Canada

Brand money comes with a responsibility to tell your followers. Ad Standards, the industry body behind Canada's advertising code, published updated Influencer Marketing Disclosure Guidelines. They say #ad used on its own is the gold standard, and that vague tags like #collab don't count as clear disclosure.

The guidelines also say your disclosure should come before other hashtags and mentions, ideally at the beginning of the post, and that a material connection includes free products, discounts and gifts, not only cash. The latest update adds guidance on paid partnership tools, so read it before you rely on the in-app label alone. If a brand asks you to hide the relationship, that's your cue to walk away.

How Instagram money lands in a Canadian account

The Canadian dollar, code CAD, is issued by the Bank of Canada and is nicknamed the loonie, or huard in French. Canadian brands normally quote in Canadian dollars, while US agencies often quote in US dollars, so agree the currency in writing before you start.

For money Meta pays you directly, Instagram's help centre says you set up a payout account in your professional dashboard. You can sign in to your bank, enter bank details by hand, link PayPal or add a debit card, depending on the options for your country, and you'll need to verify tax details before you're paid. Set it up early: Instagram says unclaimed earnings are forfeited if no payout account is added within 6 months.

Canada is on the IRS list of countries with a US income tax treaty, which can affect withholding on money from US companies. I'm not a tax adviser, so please run your own situation past a Canadian accountant.

Facebook gives Canadian creators a second shot

Canada is on Meta's list for Facebook Content Monetization, which is invite-only and pays on the performance of eligible reels, photos and posts, with English and French both supported. Canada is also one of 37 countries where Facebook Subscriptions are open to Pages. My guide to Facebook's per-view earnings for Canadian creators goes deeper, and it's worth reading alongside my look at how TikTok pays in Canada, because the picture there is very different.

Setting your rate as a Canadian creator

I haven't found a reputable named source publishing Canadian Instagram rates, so I won't invent a figure. These are the levers that move your price:

  • Bilingual reach. English and French are Canada's official languages, and a creator who can serve Quebec and English Canada is rarer.
  • Provincial focus. A Calgary retailer values Alberta followers more than viewers on the other coast.
  • Average Reel plays and saves over your last ten posts, not your single best.
  • Whether the brand wants usage rights to run your content as partnership ads.
  • Proof of past results, kept as screenshots from Insights.

For a feel of how fees climb as an account grows, my breakdown of what a growing Instagram account can earn follows the same logic.

Frequently asked questions

Does Instagram pay Canadians per view?

No. There's no standing per-view rate in Canada. Bonuses based on plays are invite-only, and Canada wasn't among the countries in Meta's latest named bonus test.

Can Canadian creators get Instagram gifts?

Canada was named in Meta's expansion of gifts on Reels. You'll need a professional account, be over 18, meet Meta's monetisation policies and have at least 5,000 followers; your dashboard confirms if it's live for you.

Must I use #ad on Instagram in Canada?

Ad Standards' guidelines call #ad on its own the gold standard and say disclosure should come early in the post, before other hashtags. Free products and discounts count too.

Can I share news on Instagram in Canada?

Meta blocks news content for users in Canada on Facebook and Instagram since the Online News Act, so news links won't reach Canadian followers. Original commentary in your own words is a different matter.

How do Canadian creators get paid by Instagram?

Through a payout account in the professional dashboard, using a bank, PayPal or debit card where offered. Brand deals are paid as agreed, usually in Canadian dollars.
