Mistplay is a real rewards app, and its own help pages describe how playing games earns points you swap for gift cards. It doesn't hand you cash directly, it publishes no points-to-money rate, and rewards can't be refunded once sent. Think of it as a small perk for games you'd play anyway, not a way to earn a living.
Whenever someone asks me about game apps that pay, Mistplay is the name that comes up first. It's also the one that disappoints people most when they expect a wage. So I went through what Mistplay says on its own blog and help centre to answer the question straight: does it pay, how, and what's the catch?
How Mistplay turns playtime into points
Mistplay's blog says you earn Game Experience Points, called GXP, every time you play games through the Mistplay app. Alongside those sit Player Experience Points, called PXP, which reflect your overall progress. Together they generate points, which Mistplay calls its in-app currency.
The blog also says the earning rate is higher during the first hour of each new game experience, and that daily logins, quick missions and play streaks add bonus points. In other words, the app rewards fresh installs and regular habits more than long, steady sessions in one title.
Which games count on Mistplay
You don't choose from an open library. Mistplay says game selection is algorithm-driven and based on your profile and play history, and that the games it mentions are illustrations because selection can vary by region. So your list may look different from a friend's.
That has a practical effect. If the games offered don't interest you, the points will feel like a grind. I'd only bother if there's a title on your list you'd happily play for fun.
What Mistplay really gives you in return
This is the part to read twice. Mistplay's blog says it doesn't give you money directly. Rewards are digital gift cards from retailers in the Mistplay Shop, and the examples it names include Starbucks, PayPal, Amazon, Google Play, Sephora and Uber Eats.
The same blog says it has distributed over 150 million dollars in prizes since launching in 2016. That's Mistplay's own figure about the whole community, so it tells you the app does hand out rewards, not what any one person can expect to receive.
How to claim a Mistplay reward
According to the blog, you open the Rewards tab once you have enough points, pick a gift card and confirm your email for delivery. Most rewards are approved within 48 hours. The My Rewards area shows Pending while an order is being processed and Approved once it's ready to claim. Cards you can't afford yet show in red, which is a handy way to see how much further you need to go.
Mistplay doesn't publish a points-to-money rate on the pages I read, and I couldn't find a minimum threshold stated. Check the Shop in the app for the current cost of the reward you want.
Where Mistplay rewards can go wrong
Mistplay's help centre is blunt about what it can't fix:
- Gift card rewards are sent fully funded to the email linked to your app, so a typo in the address can mean a lost reward. The Rewards section even has an article for people who sent a reward to the wrong address.
- The help centre says replacements or refunds aren't possible for gift cards. For invalid codes or balance problems, it points you to the gift card provider through the link in your Tango email, then Mistplay Support if needed.
- PayPal rewards should arrive within 48 hours if an active PayPal account uses the email on the reward. The email can't be resent, and a reward unclaimed after 30 days is returned, after which Mistplay can manually refund the units.
- The help centre has an article called Why do I need to verify my ID, so be ready for a check before a reward is released.
Who gets the most from Mistplay
The people who seem best suited are those who already install and try new mobile games, because the app pays attention to fresh installs and early play. If you rarely game, you'd be installing apps purely for points, and that's rarely a good trade of your time, storage and attention.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
It's also a patient person's tool. Points build slowly, and you'll want to keep an eye on the Rewards tab to see which cards come into reach. If you like collecting small perks, that's fine. If you need dependable income, it isn't the right fit, and I'd rather say that plainly now than have you discover it after a month of playing.

Is Mistplay worth installing?
It's real and it pays in the way it describes. The honest verdict is that it rewards time you'd already spend gaming, and the value per hour isn't published, so don't plan around it. Watch your phone storage and battery too, and don't let a bonus tempt you into spending money inside a game.
