How to Hide Your Snap Score: What Snapchat's Help Says

Snapchat's help pages don't list a way to hide your Snap Score. They say you'll find your own score under your name on the Profile screen and that there's no way to lower or reset it. What you can change are the privacy settings Snapchat does list, such as who can contact you.

People search for this because they don't like the idea of friends comparing numbers. Fair enough. I'd rather give you a straight answer than a tidy list of tricks, so here's the answer: Snapchat's own help pages that I could find describe where your Snapscore appears, but they don't list a setting to hide it. That's different from saying it's impossible, and it's why I'm sticking closely to what Snapchat's help centre says. Below is what the help pages cover, which privacy controls do exist, and what you can sensibly do if you want less attention on your score.

Can you hide your Snap Score? What Snapchat's help says

Snapchat's help article on Snapscore says your score is determined by a special equation that factors in the number of Snaps you've sent and received, the Stories you've posted and a couple of other factors. It says you can find your own score under your name on the Profile screen. The same article adds a note: there's no way to lower or reset your Snapscore.

What the article doesn't say is that you can switch your score off or hide it from friends. Snapchat's help page on privacy settings doesn't mention Snapscore either. So I can't give you a button to press, and I'd be wary of any website that claims one exists. Menus vary by app version, so it's worth looking in your own Settings, but don't expect the help centre to back up a hide toggle.

Where your Snap Score shows up on Snapchat

According to Snapchat's help, a friend's Snapscore appears inside the Friendship Profile. The help article on friends says friends can view each other's Friendship Profile page. People with Snapchat+ can also see how much a friend's Snapscore has changed since they last checked, by tapping the score there. For the full picture of what friends can see, I've covered how to see someone's Snap Score separately.

The help centre doesn't say your score is shown to people who aren't your friends, and I won't claim it does. What it describes is the friend relationship.

Snapchat privacy settings that do exist

Snapchat's help article on changing privacy settings names the following controls. None of them is a Snapscore switch, but together they decide how much of you is visible. Navigation can vary by app version.

  • Contact Me: controls who can reach you directly. Find it under Settings, then App and Privacy.
  • View My Story: controls who can see your Story. It sits under Settings, App and Privacy, then My Privacy and Data, and people with a public profile adjust it from their profile.
  • See My Location: controls who can view you on the Snap Map.
  • See Me In Find Friends: controls whether you appear when people look for friends. Snapchat says changes can take up to 72 hours to apply.
  • Mutual Friends: lets you choose whether your mutual friends list is shown.
  • Activity Indicator: lets others see whether you've been recently active.

How to keep your Snap Score out of sight on Snapchat

If the goal is to stop certain people looking at your Friendship Profile, the practical lever is who your friends are. Snapchat's help says that removing a friend quietly takes someone off your friends list. The teen safety page says removed people can't see your private Stories or Charms and don't see you on Snap Map. I'd only use this if you really want to cut contact, because it's a big step for a number.

If you want to understand what happens when you do, my explainer on how to know if someone removed you on Snapchat shows what the other person may notice.

Why you can't lower or reset your Snap Score

Some people want a fresh start rather than a hidden score. Snapchat's help is clear that there's no way to lower or reset it. The number only changes through the activity the equation counts, so deleting old Stories or Snaps isn't something Snapchat's help describes as a reset. If you want a clean slate, the honest options are limited, and I'd contact Snapchat Support rather than trust a random guide.

Snap Score for business owners and creators

If you use Snapchat for a brand or you're building an audience, your score is rarely what customers care about. Your Story content, reply speed and what you post matter far more. I'd treat the number as background noise. If it makes you self-conscious, spend your energy on the settings above and on sharing Stories with the audience you want. For related reading, my guide to what followers mean on Snapchat explains the difference between friends and followers, which matters for who can see what.

Be careful with Snap Score hiding tricks online

You'll find plenty of videos and posts promising a hidden Snap Score. If a method needs a third-party app, a login on another site or a hack, don't use it. It can put your account at risk, and Snapchat's help doesn't mention any of them. Stick to the app's own Settings and, if you're unsure, ask Snapchat Support.
