Here's the detail that matters most. Prolific says the hourly rate is based on the median actual completion time, not the researcher's estimate. Its own example: a 20-minute study paying 2.00 pounds meets the 6 pounds an hour minimum. If participants take 40 minutes, the effective rate drops to 3 pounds an hour, and the researcher has to fix that.
So you aren't penalised when a researcher underestimates how long a study takes. Prolific says researchers have 22 days to pay study rewards and correct any underpaying studies. When they top up a study, you may get an email about a bonus payment, even one as small as 0.01 pounds. What decides how much you make on Prolific
There's no published average participant income, and it would be misleading to give you one. What you make depends on a few things:

To keep rejections rare, read every instruction, answer attention checks carefully, don't rush and always return to Prolific with the completion code. Researchers depend on careful answers, and that care is what keeps your account in good standing.
Cashing out your Prolific earnings
Prolific pays through PayPal. It says you can cash out when your combined balance across both currencies, pounds and US dollars, reaches 6 pounds or 6 US dollars or more. You can generally cash out once every 24 hours, and payment arrives in PayPal within 24 hours, often much sooner.
There's one wait to plan for. Prolific says a 72-hour gap between cash-outs applies if you've recently added or changed your PayPal details, or if you've made fewer than four cash-outs. These are security measures, and Prolific says they can't be lifted. Prolific also allows only one PayPal account per Prolific account.
