How Much Does Snapchat Pay in Canada?

Snapchat does pay creators in Canada: Canada is on Snap's payout list, so eligible Snap Stars earn a share of the ad revenue from their Public Stories and Spotlight videos, worked out mainly on how long people watch rather than a fixed rate per view. Snap pays out in US dollars through Hyperwallet once you have at least 100 US dollars available, and you then withdraw to a Canadian bank account or PayPal.

Good news first for Canadian creators: you're in. Canada appears on every one of Snap's creator payout lists, which isn't true for a lot of the world. The less exciting news is that Snap keeps the door narrow, and it doesn't publish a rate. Here's how the money works for an account based in Canada, from qualifying to seeing it land in your bank.

Canada's place on Snap's payout lists

Snap's help centre has a page listing the countries and regions eligible for payouts. Canada is named under Creator Midroll Ads within Stories, under the Spotlight Reward Program list and under Lens Creator Rewards. So whether you earn from ads in your Stories, from Spotlight videos or from building Lenses, living in Canada doesn't block you.

Creator Rewards payouts are available in 43 countries in total. Canada and the United States are the two North American entries alongside Mexico, so Canadian creators get the same programme as their American neighbours.

What a Canadian account needs before Snap pays

Living in an eligible country is only one box. Snap's Monetization Program also asks you to:

  • have at least 50,000 followers;
  • reach fifteen thousand hours of view time over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours from Spotlight;
  • be a Snap Star;
  • be at least 18 or the age of legal majority where you live;
  • post original, advertiser-friendly content that follows Snap's guidelines.

Spotlight videos must run at least 30 seconds to earn. And Snap's monetisation page says that beginning May 7th, 2026, you need at least 100 hours of Total Spotlight View Time over the last 28 days to get the maximum Creator Rewards, so a Story-only strategy leaves money on the table.

Snap Star is a badge Snap grants, not one you buy. There's no follower number attached. Snap looks for a large, engaged audience, regular public Stories, a real person behind the account and some notability. Snap also says it never charges for programme invitations, which is worth remembering if a stranger messages you offering a fast-track.

How the money is worked out for Canadian Snapchatters

Snap places ads in your Public Story or inside your Spotlight videos and shares the revenue with you. The ads are served mainly based on how long people watch. That's why two creators with the same view count can earn very different amounts: the one whose audience watches longer gets more ad slots.

Snap doesn't publish a Canadian rate per thousand views, and I won't invent one. What moves your earnings is how much advertisers want to reach your viewers, where those viewers live, your niche and your watch time. Your own Creator Rewards Hub, under My Creator Rewards in your profile, shows what you've earned, and that's the only number worth planning around.

From Creator Rewards to Canadian dollars

Payouts go through Snap's partner Hyperwallet. You set up a Payout Portal, and your first and last name have to match your full legal name and the details you give Hyperwallet. Rewards sit as Pending for 14 days, then become Available. You can cash out once you have at least 100 US dollars available, and Snap converts your rewards to US dollars.

From Hyperwallet you choose a withdrawal option such as a bank account or PayPal. Because your rewards are in US dollars and your bank account is probably in Canadian dollars (CAD, issued by the Bank of Canada and nicknamed the loonie), expect a currency conversion and transaction fees based on the method you pick. Cash can take an additional 14 days or longer to arrive after you cash out.

I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.

Snap's payout page points creators outside the US to US tax forms such as W-8BEN. Canada is on the IRS list of countries with a United States income tax treaty, which can matter for withholding. I'm not giving tax advice here, so take your forms and your Canadian return questions to an accountant who knows creator income.

Other income that works for Canadian creators

Snap's payout is one stream, not a salary. Canadian creators I'd watch usually stack it with brand collaborations, Lens creation and other platforms. YouTube's Partner Program is available in Canada, and I've covered how YouTube pays Canadian channels if you want to compare.

If you're curious how different the picture looks where Snap hasn't opened payouts, read my guide for South African Snapchat creators. It's a useful reminder of what Canadian creators have that others don't.

One practical tip for Canadian creators: keep a simple record of each cash out, the US dollar amount, the date it left Hyperwallet and the Canadian dollar amount that reached your bank. The gap between those two figures is your conversion and transfer cost, and having it written down makes year-end bookkeeping far less painful. It also shows you whether PayPal or a direct bank withdrawal leaves you with more.
