YouTube doesn't publish a Ghana rate per 1,000 views; your RPM depends on viewer location, topic and how many views showed ads. Ghana is on the Partner Program list for ad revenue, but not for memberships or Super Chat, and payouts arrive by wire or check before your bank converts them to cedis.
Ghanaian YouTubers make everything from Accra street food tours to Twi comedy and highlife covers. So it's fair to ask what all those views pay. I'll be straight with you: YouTube doesn't publish a Ghana rate, and Ghana has a narrower set of money tools than some other African countries. Knowing that early helps you plan.
What Ghanaian creators can and can't switch on
Ghana is on YouTube's Partner Program availability list, so ad revenue is open to Ghanaian channels that qualify. That's the main earner, and it's where most of your per-1,000-view figure will come from.
Here's the catch. When I checked YouTube's help pages, Ghana wasn't on the list for the expanded programme, wasn't on the channel memberships list, and wasn't listed for Super Chat and Super Stickers. In plain terms, a Ghanaian channel can't take paid memberships or paid live chat messages through YouTube right now, even with a loyal audience.
YouTube Premium is available in Ghana, and Premium revenue is one of the sources that feeds a creator's RPM, so you still get paid when Premium members watch your videos.
| Income route | Available in Ghana? | Source checked |
|---|---|---|
| Partner Program ad revenue | Yes | YouTube Partner Program availability |
| Expanded programme (500 subscribers) | No | Expanded YouTube Partner Program |
| Channel memberships | No | Channel memberships availability |
| Super Chat and Super Stickers | No | Super Chat availability |
| YouTube Premium | Yes | YouTube Premium locations |
The threshold a Ghanaian channel has to reach
Because the lower-entry tier isn't open in Ghana, the full bar applies: 1,000 subscribers and then either 4,000 qualified watch hours in the past 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the past 90 days. For most Ghanaian creators the watch-hours route is the realistic one. Longer videos, like full recipe walkthroughs or match breakdowns, build hours far faster than Shorts.
What sets the Ghana figure per 1,000 views
YouTube reports RPM, its measure of what you've earned per 1,000 video views after YouTube's revenue share. It includes views where no ad ran, so it's lower than the CPM advertisers pay. Several things push your RPM up or down.
- Viewer location. YouTube says geography affects CPM. Views from Ghana are mostly bought by advertisers targeting Ghana, while views from the diaspora in the UK, the US or Canada are sold into different ad markets.
- Topic. Business, tech, education and money videos attract bigger advertiser budgets than general entertainment.
- Format. Long videos can carry more ads. Shorts revenue is pooled and creators keep 45% of what's allocated to them, shared by engaged views among monetising creators in each country.
- Ad suitability. Videos with swearing, violence or shock content may get limited ads, which drags RPM down.
The diaspora point is worth thinking about. A Ghanaian food or culture channel watched by Ghanaians abroad is reaching viewers that some advertisers pay more to reach. That doesn't mean you should chase foreign viewers, but it's worth checking your audience geography in YouTube Studio.
Getting your money into a Ghana bank
Payouts come through AdSense for YouTube. Google's payment methods table lists check and wire transfer for Ghana, with EFT not offered. Pick whichever suits your bank. Your bank or branch has to be in the same country as the address in your payments settings.
The Ghanaian cedi isn't one of the reporting currencies on the AdSense thresholds page, so expect to work to the US dollar threshold of 100 US dollars, with your bank converting to GHS when the money lands. Google asks for identity verification before paying out, and sends an address check once you reach 10 US dollars or the local equivalent. Keep that address accurate, because the PIN letter has to find you.
Tax forms for creators in Ghana
YouTube asks creators outside the US to submit US tax info. With it in place, withholding applies only to earnings from US viewers, at 0 to 30% depending on treaty status. Ghana isn't on the IRS list of US income tax treaties.
Want AI doing the heavy lifting in your marketing?
I build the systems that handle the boring 80 percent, so you get your week back. Done properly, with the human kept in.
If you leave the form blank on an individual account, YouTube says it'll withhold 24% of your total earnings worldwide, not just the US share. That's an expensive thing to forget. I'm not a tax adviser, so check your own position with an accountant in Ghana.
Building income beyond ads in Ghana
With memberships and Super Chat off the table, Ghanaian creators lean harder on routes outside YouTube's own tools. Brand deals with Ghanaian businesses are the big one: telecoms, food brands and fashion labels all work with local creators. Selling your own product, from an e-book to a cooking class, works well too.
My guide to making money online in Ghana has more ideas you can run alongside a channel. If you're curious how the picture changes elsewhere, compare the Kenyan creator guide, where memberships and Super Chat are open, with the South Africa guide, where payouts go by EFT.
A million views in Ghana: how to estimate it
There's no honest single number. Take your RPM from the Revenue tab in YouTube Studio and multiply it by the views you're expecting in thousands. That's your realistic estimate. Then think about the bonus value: new subscribers, brand enquiries and a bigger base for your next upload.
Frequently asked questions
How much does YouTube pay per 1000 views in Ghana?
YouTube doesn't publish a Ghana rate. Your RPM, or earnings per 1,000 views after YouTube's share, depends on where your viewers live, your topic and how many views carried ads. YouTube Studio shows your own figure.
Is YouTube monetisation available in Ghana?
Yes for ad revenue: Ghana is on the YouTube Partner Program availability list. Ghana isn't on the lists for the expanded programme, channel memberships or Super Chat.
Can Ghanaian YouTubers get Super Chat?
Not at the moment. YouTube's Super Chat and Super Stickers availability list doesn't include Ghana, so live stream income comes mainly from ads and Premium.
How do YouTubers in Ghana receive payment?
Through AdSense for YouTube by wire transfer or check, as listed in Google's payment methods table. Your bank converts the payment to Ghanaian cedis.
Do Ghanaian creators pay US tax on YouTube income?
YouTube withholds 0 to 30% from earnings from US viewers once tax info is submitted, depending on treaty status. Ghana isn't on the IRS treaty list. Ask a Ghanaian accountant about your own tax.
