To pin a comment on TikTok, open one of your own videos, tap the comments, press and hold the comment you want, and choose Pin comment. It moves to the top marked as Pinned. Each video can have one pinned comment, and pinning another one replaces it.
A pinned comment is the first thing many viewers read after the video. That makes it a handy place for a short note, a link-free instruction or a friendly welcome. It only takes a moment to set up, and you can change it whenever you like.
Pin a comment in a few taps
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Tap one of your own videos to open it.
- Tap the comment icon to open the comments.
- Find the comment you'd like to pin. It can be one you wrote yourself or one from a viewer.
- Press and hold the comment until a menu pops up.
- Tap Pin comment.
The comment now sits at the top with a label that says Pinned. If a menu name looks different in your version of TikTok, search the app's settings for the word pin, or press and hold the comment and read the options it offers.
A few rules to know
- Only your own videos. You can pin comments on videos you've posted, and not on anyone else's.
- One at a time. A video holds a single pinned comment. If you pin a second one, it replaces the first.
- Yours or theirs. You can pin a comment you wrote or a comment from someone else.
- Easy to undo. Press and hold the pinned comment and choose Unpin.
How to unpin or swap a pinned comment
To remove it, open the video, go to the comments, press and hold the pinned comment and tap Unpin. To swap it for a different one, just pin the new comment. TikTok will move the label across for you.
Why pin a comment at all?
The top of the comments is prime space. Pinning lets you decide what a new viewer sees first, instead of leaving it to chance. Here are the main reasons creators and small businesses use it:
- Answer the question everyone asks. If viewers keep asking the same thing, answer it once at the top.
- Point people to the next step. Tell them where to find more details, in plain words.
- Set the tone. A friendly, kind first comment tends to encourage similar replies underneath.
- Show off a good comment. A viewer's kind words work well as a quiet recommendation.
Original example comments for a small business
Here are some ideas I made up to show how a pinned comment can work for different kinds of small business. Change the wording so it sounds like you.
A home bakery
"Thanks for watching! Orders for the weekend close on Thursday evening. Send me a message to book your slot."
A hair stylist
"Lots of you asked about the colour in this video. It's a soft brown with warm tones, and I'm happy to talk it through at your consultation."
A dog walker
"I walk small groups in the park on weekday mornings. If you're nearby and want a spot for your dog, send me a message."
A plant shop
"The plant in the video is a pothos, one of the friendliest houseplants for beginners. Ask me anything about watering and light."
Notice that none of these is pushy. Each one answers a likely question and invites a conversation. That's the style that usually feels welcoming.
What a good pinned comment looks like
Keep it short. Most people read the top comment in a second or two, so one or two sentences is plenty. Write it the way you'd talk to a friend, and give viewers one clear thing to do, such as reply with their answer or send you a message.
- Be specific. "Ask me about the recipe" works better than "Questions welcome".
- Stay on topic. The pinned comment should match what the video is about.
- Keep it honest. Don't promise things you can't deliver, and don't pin a comment just to fake popularity.
- Refresh it. If your plans change, update the pin so it never goes out of date.
A pinned comment sits inside the comments section, so it's best treated as a note to your viewers rather than a billboard. Use it to be useful, and people will keep reading it.

Pinning when you're not a business
Pinning isn't only for selling. Creators use it to share a video's backstory, thank people for their support or ask a question that gets the conversation going. A good pinned question, like "What would you have done?", can give viewers a reason to reply.
If you're also on Instagram, it has a similar feature, and I've explained it in my guide on how to pin a comment on Instagram.
Troubleshooting: the pin option is missing
Don't worry if you can't see Pin comment. Here's what to check.
- Make sure the video is yours. The option isn't available on other people's videos.
- Press and hold, don't just tap. The menu only appears when you hold your finger on the comment for a moment.
- Update TikTok. If the option is missing, you might be on an older version. Update the app from your app store.
- Restart the app. Close TikTok and open it again, then try once more.
- Check the comment is still there. If it was deleted or hidden, you can't pin it.
Sometimes a comment you wanted to pin has vanished from the list. There are a few common reasons, which I cover in why TikTok comments disappear. And if comments are being tucked away under a label, my guide to why TikTok comments get folded and how to avoid it explains what's going on.
Pin and reply: a small routine
Pinning works even better when you pair it with a reply. If a viewer asks a good question, reply to it in the comments, then pin your reply or the question itself. New viewers see the question and your answer together, and fewer people need to ask it again.
On a busy video, check back a day or so after posting. Early comments are often the most useful ones, and the best of them can sit at the top for as long as you like.
A habit worth building
Take a minute after each new video to look through the first few comments. Pin the one that does the most work, whether that's a useful answer or a warm welcome. It's a small habit, and it makes your page feel looked after.
