Electrician software covers two jobs: running the business with scheduling, quotes and estimates, invoicing and reminders, and producing electrical certificates from your test results. Look for a mobile app that works offline. This page lists ten options in no particular order, then explains what to check, what to ask and which type suits your firm.
Electricians juggle more paperwork than most trades. On top of quotes, diaries and invoices, there are test results to record and certificates to issue, often on a customer's kitchen table at the end of a long day. The right electrician software brings all of that into one place, so you leave site with the job finished and the paperwork done.
I've listed ten options in no particular order. Some are full job management systems, and others are certificate apps built for UK electricians, because many firms end up using one of each. I've used each vendor's own website and directory listings, plus what electricians report, to keep it fair. For faster quoting ideas, see my guide on how electricians can use automation to quote faster.

Job management or certificate app: what electricians need
It helps to know which problem you're solving. Job management software runs the business side: enquiries, quotes and estimates, scheduling, dispatch, invoices and customer reminders. Certificate software focuses on test results and electrical certificates and reports.
Some job management tools include certificates, and some certificate apps add a few business features, but plenty of electricians run one of each. If certificates are most of your admin, start there. If chasing quotes and invoices is the real drain, start with job management.
Electrical contractor checklist for picking software
- Scheduling and dispatch that shows who's on which job, with easy changes when plans move.
- Quotes and estimates with templates for common jobs, photos and online acceptance.
- Certificates that match the forms you issue, with test results that carry across without retyping.
- A mobile app that works offline in a loft, a basement or a new build without signal.
- Invoicing on site, card payments and a link to your accounting software.
- Customer reminders for periodic inspections and follow-up work.
- Simple export of customers, jobs and certificates if you ever move on.
Things electricians wish they'd asked before choosing software
- Will the certificate forms stay in line with the current wiring regulations, and how are updates handled?
- Can I sign certificates and send them to the customer from site?
- Does it work on the devices my team already carries?
- How easy is it to add an apprentice or a new electrician?
- What's the minimum contract, and what notice is needed to leave?
Once invoices go out from site, clear terms help them land on time. My guide to invoice payment terms explains what to put on them.
Electrician software slip-ups to avoid
- Buying a big platform when what you need is quicker certificates.
- Keeping test results on paper and typing them up later, which doubles the work.
- Not checking that the app works offline before relying on it on site.
- Rolling out to the whole team at once instead of starting with a couple of electricians.
- Forgetting to plan how you'll keep old certificates you're required to hold.
Which electrician software type suits sole traders and teams
A sole trader often does well with a phone-based job app plus a certificate app, ideally with a free plan or trial to try first. You'll want fast quotes, a tidy diary and certificates you can send before leaving the customer's home.
Growing electrical contractors with an office, apprentices and commercial work usually need stronger scheduling, project tracking, stock and reporting. Those systems tend to start with a demo and take longer to set up, so involve your lead electricians early. When you're ready to bring in more work, my list of AI tools for winning more electrical leads is a good next read.

Settling on electrician software with confidence
Shortlist two or three tools and use them for real: quote a job, schedule it, complete a certificate and send the invoice. Ask the electricians who'll use it every day what they think, and choose the one they'll keep using when they're tired at the end of a shift.
Frequently asked questions
What is electrician software?
It's software that helps electrical businesses run jobs and paperwork. Job management tools handle quotes and estimates, scheduling, invoices and reminders, while certificate apps record test results and produce electrical certificates.
Do I need separate certificate software?
Not always. Some job management tools include electrical certificates, but many electricians prefer a dedicated certificate app alongside their job system. Check which forms each tool supports before you decide.
Can I use electrician software offline?
Many apps let you work offline and sync later, which helps in lofts, basements and new builds. Check the vendor's own site, and try it without signal during your trial.
Is electrician software worth it for a sole trader?
If evenings go on typing up certificates, writing quotes and chasing invoices, a simple app can give you that time back. A free plan or trial lets you see the difference first.
How do I move my old certificates across?
Most tools let you import customers, but older certificates may need to stay in your previous system or as files. Keep them safe and easy to find, as you may need them later.
