How Do You Join a TikTok Creator Growth Challenge? A No-Nonsense Walkthrough

The short version: You join a TikTok creator growth challenge from inside TikTok Studio, under the Growth tab, once your account meets TikTok's eligibility bar (usually 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the last 30 days, plus an account in good standing). Not every creator sees the same challenges at the same time because TikTok rolls them out in waves, and the boost you get from completing one is real but temporary, not a permanent change to how your account performs.

What a TikTok creator growth challenge is

A creator growth challenge is a time-limited task set that TikTok pushes to specific accounts through TikTok Studio. It's not a public sign-up page you can just search for and click "join." Think of it as TikTok saying: post this many times this week, use this trending sound, reply to this many comments, and we'll widen your For You Page reach for the duration.

These sit alongside (and get confused with) other TikTok programmes, so it's worth separating them out. The Creator Rewards Program pays you per view once you hit eligibility. TikTok Pulse places your content next to premium video for ad-share deals. The TikTok One Minute Growth Programme specifically rewards longer-form content over 60 seconds. A growth challenge is different again: it's a short, task-based push designed to get you posting more, not necessarily to pay you directly.

Who gets invited

TikTok doesn't publish a full rulebook, but from what I've seen across client accounts and my own, the pattern is consistent:

  • You need to be 18 or older, with a verified TikTok account.
  • Most challenges only appear once you've crossed 10,000 followers.
  • You typically need at least 100,000 video views in the previous 30 days.
  • You need to have posted at least 5 original videos in that same 30-day window.
  • Your account has to be in good standing, meaning no recent violations of community guidelines.
  • You need to be based in a country where the programme is live (the US, UK, and most of Western Europe usually get these first).

If you're under 10,000 followers, the growth challenges themselves are largely off the table for now, but that doesn't mean you're stuck. It means your energy is better spent on consistent posting and hashtag strategy until you cross that line, which is exactly why tools like a free TikTok hashtag generator matter more at this stage than chasing a programme you're not eligible for yet.

Step by step: how to join a TikTok creator growth challenge

Here's the exact path, not a vague "check your app":

  1. Open TikTok and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the three-line menu in the top right, then tap "TikTok Studio."
  3. Inside Studio, look for the "Growth" or "Tasks" tab (TikTok reshuffles this menu occasionally, so it might sit under "Grow" or "Programs" depending on your app version).
  4. If you're eligible, you'll see active challenges listed here with a start date, an end date, and a list of tasks (post X times, use a specific effect, hit a watch-time target).
  5. Tap "Join" or "Opt in" on the challenge card.
  6. Complete the listed tasks within the window. Progress usually shows as a bar or checklist inside the same tab.
  7. Rewards (extra reach, a badge, sometimes a small cash bonus) get applied automatically once you hit the targets, no separate claim form needed.

If you go looking and see nothing under Growth or Tasks, that's not a bug, it usually means you're not currently eligible or TikTok hasn't rolled that wave out to your account yet. There's a fuller step-by-step walkthrough with screenshots if you want to see exactly what the menu looks like on both iOS and Android.

What happened when a client of mine joined one

I worked with a candle maker in Bristol who was sitting at 3,200 followers with an average of 1,800 views per video, decent but flat. In late 2025 her account got invited into a 7-day posting challenge: post once a day, use one of three suggested trending sounds each time, and reply to at least five comments per video.

She stuck to it. By day three her views doubled to around 3,600. By day five, one video using a trending sound over a "how it's made" clip hit 62,000 views, her biggest video ever at that point. By the end of the week she'd gone from 3,200 to 5,100 followers, a jump of nearly 60 percent in seven days.

Here's the part most posts on this topic skip over: two weeks after the challenge ended, her average view count settled back down to around 2,400 per video. Higher than before, yes, but nowhere near the 62,000-view peak. The algorithm boost was real while it lasted and it left her with a bigger baseline than she started with, but it wasn't a permanent multiplier. TikTok gave her a temporary spotlight because it needed fresh, frequent content from active creators that week, not because her content had permanently levelled up in the algorithm's eyes.

The bit that's easy to gloss over

TikTok runs these growth challenges because it benefits TikTok. More posting from creators means more inventory to serve ads against and more reasons for viewers to keep scrolling. That's not a criticism, it's just how the incentive is built, and it's worth knowing going in so you don't mistake a challenge invite for TikTok deciding you're special. You were invited because your account hit a threshold that made you useful to the platform's own goals that week.

That means the sensible move is to treat a growth challenge as a short sprint that can pull forward followers you'd have earned anyway, not as your whole strategy. If you build your entire plan around waiting for the next challenge invite, you'll spend long stretches doing nothing productive between challenges. The creators who compound their growth are the ones posting consistently regardless of whether a challenge is live, using organic tactics like the ones covered in growing a TikTok following without paid ads, and treating any challenge boost as a bonus on top of that baseline habit.

What to do if you're not eligible yet

If you're checking TikTok Studio and finding no challenges waiting for you, don't waste time refreshing the app hoping one appears. Put the effort into the things that get you to the 10,000-follower and 100,000-view thresholds faster:

  • Post at a consistent time each day for at least three weeks, TikTok's own creator data has repeatedly shown accounts that post daily grow faster than sporadic posters.
  • Use three to five relevant hashtags per video rather than ten generic ones, a mix of a broad tag, a niche tag, and a trending tag tends to outperform a wall of hashtags.
  • Reply to every comment in the first hour after posting, since early engagement signals to the algorithm that a video is worth showing to more people.
  • Study which of your videos crossed 10,000 views and repeat that exact format (same hook style, same length, same sound type) rather than constantly reinventing your content.

Once you're eligible for a challenge, also keep an eye on monetization programmes running alongside it. Plenty of creators join a growth challenge and never check whether they've also crossed the bar for direct payment, which is worth knowing given how different the payout structures are in the Creator Fund versus Creativity Program comparison.

A quick reality check before you dive in

Growth challenges reward volume and specific behaviours, not necessarily your best work. If the task is "post daily," you'll be tempted to publish weaker content just to hit the checkbox. My advice after watching several client accounts go through these: keep a minimum quality bar even under deadline pressure. A rushed video that undersells your brand can do more damage over time than the follower bump is worth, especially if you're a business owner using TikTok as part of a wider brand play rather than chasing viral moments for their own sake.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need to join a TikTok creator growth challenge?

Most growth challenges only appear for accounts with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 video views in the past 30 days, though TikTok doesn't guarantee every eligible account sees a challenge at the same time.

Can you apply for a TikTok creator growth challenge manually?

No, there's no external application form. TikTok invites eligible accounts through TikTok Studio, under the Growth or Tasks tab, based on your recent posting activity and account standing.

Do TikTok growth challenges pay money?

Some include small cash bonuses tied to completing tasks, but most are built around boosted reach and follower growth rather than direct payment. For consistent per-view earnings you'd want the Creator Rewards Program instead.

Why can't I see any challenges in my TikTok Studio?

If nothing shows under Growth or Tasks, you likely haven't crossed the follower or view threshold yet, your account may not be in a country where the programme is live, or TikTok simply hasn't rolled that wave out to you. Keep posting consistently and check back weekly.
