Is Social Engagement Heightened When Text and Visual Content are Merged?

Have you been keeping text-based and image-based posts separate on your social media channels? Yes? This might be why your posts fail to make a big splash among your target audience.

If likes, comments, and follow requests are practically non-existent, you must take a long, hard look at your social media strategy.

As people’s attention span diminishes, text-based posts are taking a backseat. Instead, you must merge visual content and text to heighten social engagement and compel people to take notice of your brand.

On social media, visual content refers to image-based content, which includes memes, infographics, illustrations, GIFs, photos, carousel posts, animations, and videos. Most of the time, social media influencers use beautiful visuals with descriptive text and present them in the form of carousel posts for their audience. This is an intelligent way of giving instructions to the audience while not being boring. But, of course, you can do the same for your posts.

Continue scrolling to get ideas on how you can merge visual content and text to augment social engagement and wow your audience.

Text Overlays

Text overlays are a fantastic way to convey your message through a unique, cool design. You can brainstorm with your marketing team and develop phrases to inspire your audience. Alternatively, you can use phrases quoted by famous personalities and pair them with lovely images to grab the audience’s attention. Of course, the images must grasp the vibe of the phrase so that even if people do not have time to read the text, they can understand what you want to say through the picture.

If there’s a phrase you want to use, but it is on an image or screenshot, you can copy text from image Mac using Prizmo or TextSniper. Then, edit the text according to your post and upload it.

You Cannot Go Wrong with Infographics!

Infographics offer 650% higher engagement than plain written text. So naturally, infographics must be your number one choice for social media posts. Also, it is an excellent way to merge text and visual content seamlessly.

But there’s a small catch. Many marketers already use infographics, and most prefer posting graphs-heavy infographics. Following the same pattern makes it easy to get lost in the crowd.

Instead, you can use photos from the audience’s perspective. Don’t have to use graphs if you can talk to your audience through images and a bit of text to describe the images. The text overlay can contain information regarding what the images mean so that the message you want to convey is clear.

There was a time when people were quickly attracted to caricatures and cartoon-style images. Today, people want to see meaty pictures that evoke emotions. Therefore, connect with your audience using original images and descriptive text overlays.

Illustrate or Make the Tagline More Descriptive

Typically, brands have text-based taglines. But if you want to get the most out of them, you can follow in the footsteps of Red Bull.

By illustrating it, Red Bull has redefined its tagline – Gives You Wings. In addition, they have used photos to reinforce the written tagline. Therefore, the audience doesn’t have to read the tagline anymore to understand that drinking Red Bull will give them wings.

You can also create descriptive images and visuals to explain the meaning of your brand’s tagline. As a result, the tagline will come alive and become exciting. This excitement will help you maintain a lead in the market.

So, is Social Engagement Increased when Visual Content and Text are Merged?

The answer is yes. Combining text and visuals can take your social media and content strategy to the next level.

By organizing written information and graphics, you can achieve the following:

  • Better communicate ideas and not leave an iota of doubt in the minds of your audience regarding the message you are trying to convey. The design ideas and the textual information will appeal to the mental schemas of the audience.
  • Your brand will achieve better recognition because the mind can retain different designs, colors, and shapes more than it can retain text.
  • Visuals help to add credibility. Therefore, persuading the audience to purchase your products, subscribe to the email list, or take action will become easier with engaging visual content.
  • Visual content plus unique branded text will help create and strengthen your brand identity.
  • A good relationship between text and visuals will create an unforgettable visual experience for the audience.

The Bottom Line

Big chunks of text can quickly bore the audience, and visual content without any textual information can perplex them. Therefore, combine text and visual content to attract your audience and drive social engagement. For example, you can create infographics, text overlays, or illustrate the brand tagline to bring it to life.
