5 Car Dealership Customer Retention Strategies

Managing a dealership can be more challenging than what outsiders perceive. Profitability isn’t always guaranteed due to intense competition, making it hard to retain customers, especially those always seeking the most economical deals. However, these five tactics can significantly bolster customer loyalty now and ensure a consistent clientele for future generations.

Manage Reviews

Maintaining your reputation effectively and keeping a close eye on reviews is key to customer retention. Roughly 91% of buyers consult online reviews before making a purchase, with 84% trusting these reviews as much as they would a personal recommendation.

To uphold your reputation, offer exceptional customer service and ensure that your unified digital marketing strategy consistently embodies your dealership’s brand image. This means all elements of your online presence including tweets, blog posts, YouTube videos, paid search ads, website content, and any other digital footprint, should reflect your brand accurately.

While you don’t have control over the reviews customers leave about your dealership, it’s essential to have a strategy for monitoring these. This allows for understanding public sentiment and helps identify the most suitable way to respond to reviews.

Positive Equity

As individuals who are not just specialists in the car industry but also consumers, we understand the relevance of equity. Equity mining is the balance between the car’s actual value and the outstanding amount on the contract or lease. As customers clear their car payments, the car’s value will eventually exceed the owed amount, leading to a state of positive equity.ย

This allows the customer to use the car’s value to decrease the cost of their next vehicle. In addition to this discount, they can make a down payment that could keep or even reduce their previous installments. This might even give them the chance to upgrade to their dream car. In this situation, both parties benefit: the customer acquires their dream car, and the dealer makes a sale while adding to their inventory.

Continuous Communication

The bond with your customers isn’t severed when they leave with their new automobile. It’s imperative to remain prominent in their thoughts when service is required or when the time comes for an upgrade.

One of the most impactful methods is utilizing automotive marketing emails. These communications can be crafted to highlight unique deals, provide useful insights, or simply maintain a connection. Be mindful not to overdo it.

Another effective communication strategy is text messaging. This can be a swift means to reach your customers with significant updates or reminders. Customers are more likely to engage with your messages due to its common usage and familiarity.

Financing Options

An additional tactic for customer retention could be the provision of credit options. Numerous individuals cannot bear the initial expense but might be more inclined to purchase if financing alternatives are available. This holds particularly true when your rates are competitive. Ensure that your sales team is amicable and well-informed. If customers feel they aren’t receiving good service, their chances of returning are slim.

Encourage Clients to Consistently Service their Cars at Your Dealership

Regular customer visits to the service center increase their likelihood of leasing or purchasing a vehicle from your dealership. Hence, dealerships must strike a balanced relationship between the sales and service departments. Both departments should actively endorse each other to both new and existing customers.

The primary step involves ensuring potential and new customers are conscious of your service department’s existence. Subsequently, you must inspire them to bring their vehicles for regular maintenance and servicing consistently.

Endnote

Your clients crave recognition and engagement. By immersing them emotionally in your brand’s narrative and crafting bespoke communication paths, validating their uniqueness and human nature is crucial.
