About Madalyn and Her Background

Madalyn actually decided on a whim to become her own boss, back in 1996 when she’d had enough of the corporate world.

She’d had the foresight to learn HTML, even though the internet was new, and when many friends began asking if they could hire her to create web pages, she realised this could be an opportunity.

It was such a new venture that the tax office didn’t even know how to label her sales tax!

This meant that Madalyn had no mentors and had to learn on her own. She soon fell in love with building web pages, helping people, and entrepreneurship.

Empowered by her success, she started an online community for female musicians, allowing them to connect with others across the world.

Although she doesn’t do web design or run an online music community anymore, she’s an advocate of pivoting as needed in order to stay relevant in the business world.

Madalyn also followed every social platform as they launched and grew, helping others to use them effectively with her knowledge.

Madalyn’s Thoughts On Twitter

Madalyn cites “shiny object syndrome” as the main reason for people moving away from Twitter and onto things like Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok!

She praises Twitter for being an excellent source of real-time conversation & breaking news, but admits that entrepreneurs don’t often make the most of the platform.

Madalyn has watched the ups and downs of Twitter & talks about new features and upgrades that have made the platform much more exciting and engaging.

She believes that Twitter is so much more than typing 140 characters into a short status, and she’s committed to helping others understand that and use it to their advantage!

Madalyn’s Predictions on Musk-Run Twitter

Madalyn is on the fence about how Elon Musk’s purchase will affect the platform. In her own words, “It’s either going to be really, really good or really, really bad!”

She says it’s a wait-and-see kind of game. She does voice some concern about how many other things Mr Musk has on his plate and wonders if he’ll be able to put in the effort needed to keep the platform flourishing.

Madalyn has seen Twitter go from strength to strength and hopes that it isn’t all undone!

Her Thoughts On Twitter APIs

Lilach brings up the topic of Twitter APIs, and Madalyn agrees that opening them up would be a great thing to have.

She mentions that Elon has tweeted about bringing the edit button back, which caused some excitement, but she isn’t sure what kind of feedback he may get from board members.

Madalyn’s Tips for Getting A Great ROI

Madalyn suggests having a list of daily, weekly, and monthly items to stay on top of your marketing efforts & increase your chance of getting a great ROI.

You need to be present on your main social media platforms every day, sharing your own content, other curated content, and engaging with others by replying to your comments, Tweets, etc.

Then take a step back & look at the big picture to see what you can do weekly. For example, Twitter spaces, Facebook lives, etc. which help people to get to know you. You don’t have to start your own in the beginning, you can join others’.

All of this helps Madalyn to generate an ROI, so she speaks from experience! She also shares lead magnets, short courses, and other digital products, which makes a huge difference.

She also suggests not neglecting your analytics, as they offer valuable information about what’s going on on your profile. Madalyn also believes reviewing your Twitter on a monthly basis and setting new goals will help you to stay on top of things.

Why Some Businesses Are More Successful Than Others

Madalyn believes it’s a variety of things, but certain things stand out in the context of her own success.

Showing up everyday, putting out valuable content, engaging with people, & keeping her content and interactions interesting make a huge difference.

She also uses personalised gifs for a bit of fun and engagement! Lilach agrees that being different and doing things that nobody else is doing can help you to stand out online.

How Madalyn Faced & Overcame Challenges

Madalyn reminds us that challenges are inevitable as entrepreneurs. One of the biggest ones she’s run into is trying to make everyone happy. She’s a people pleaser, but there will always be those people who aren’t able to be pleased!

Be true to yourself, true to your message, and don’t let those kinds of people stop you. If you’re helping people and making a difference, those people who don’t like it won’t matter as much.

Nobody wants to have bad things said about them, but remember that you’re helping people when you’re true to yourself.

Lilach also points out that this anxiety about being liked and pleasing people isn’t just a female thing! She coaches many men who have the same feelings.

She adds her motto, “Do It Anyway!” The people you can’t please aren’t the ones putting money in your bank.

The Most Interesting Place Madalyn’s Visited

Madalyn hasn’t travelled since Covid, but she loves Greece. She was there in the 2000s and fell in love with the beauty of the country.
