How Evan Became an Entrepreneur
Evan didn’t even know what an entrepreneur was as a youngster! He liked making money but never considered it as an opportunity to work for himself. When he was in uni, he was asked to join a 2-person business as an equity partner. While all his friends were getting big jobs, he was struggling through.
His clarity came when he saw a Jeff Bezos quote: “I knew that if I failed I wouldn’t regret that, but I knew the one thing I might regret is not trying.”
Evan knew that he’d rather fail & know, than not try & not know. He found that he liked entrepreneurship & was lucky enough to find & take early opportunities.
Evan’s Entrepreneurship Beginnings
At 19, Evan started a business with a partner. It was a struggle & after building it up he sold it when he was 22. From there, he joined a company helping to raise capital for entrepreneurs.
He soon started being asked to speak at events, as well as starting a website sharing content to help entrepreneurs along their journeys. It eventually evolved into a YouTube channel, aimed at helping entrepreneurs who are struggling to get started.
Evan’s idea was to provide all the information and education that he wished he had at 19 years old when he was starting out.
Interesting fact: When Evan started his website, he was listing entrepreneur success stories and Lilach happened to be one!
Evan’s Advice for Growth
Evan is the first to admit his growth was slow. After 5 years, he still only had around 700 subscribers! He credits his own love for what he does as why he didn’t give up!
His recipe for success is to simply keep on going. He kept creating content, kept helping people, and little by little his following grew.
Another huge element that he believes helped is that he always focused on the people he was serving instead of the people he wasn’t serving (even if he only had a small amount of followers).
This helped him to focus on providing value for the followers he did have & gain more organically, rather than worrying about the people who weren’t following & how he could get them to.
It’s more fun, you feel like you’re making a difference, & if you keep serving your people well, they’ll bring others to you.

Evan’s New Book, Built to Serve
Lilach loves to read & she found Evan’s book, Built to Serve, to be a great read.
Evan begins by saying that if you’re not happy, it’s because you’re not serving. Humans are built to serve & we all want to feel like we’re making a difference.
Feeling like you’re doing something that matters changes everything from health to happiness to purpose.
Evan’s reason for writing this book is to help the reader figure out how to serve, who to serve, and the best path to get there. It also contains advice for turning your service into a business, so you can serve others and make a living at the same time.
The Turning Point
Evan’s turning point in his business and YouTube channel came when he made the decision to improve his skills & invest in his business.
Mindset was a big shift for Evan. He’s naturally an introvert & used to struggle with shyness. But he realised he could be an introvert & still serve. It’s not about him – it’s about the people he helps. That helped him to find motivation to make YouTube videos with more confidence.
He also got help with coaching & becoming a better speaker. Getting input from others and getting guidance helped to change both Evan’s mindset and his skillset, which in turn is what set off a growth spurt (5ish tears after he began!).
Evan’s YouTube/Video Marketing Tips
Evan suggests asking yourself a few questions first: What are you trying to sell? What is your business all about? What is your goal?
Not everyone’s goal will be 1 million subscribers. Rather aim for a smaller group of dedicated fans in your exact niche.
Make sure you enjoy the content you’re making, or it won’t be effective. If you don’t like what you’re doing, you’ll end up quitting. If the work itself doesn’t fuel you, you won’t be able to see it through.
Try different things. Expect to suck at all of them, but it will help you to find what you really enjoy doing. It will take time, but you’ll learn what you love doing, gain skills along the way, & build the right community of people.
What Performs Best on YouTube?
Evan reminds Lilach that his niche is education & thought leadership, and not every niche is the same. In his category, longer is better. 10 minutes per video is the shortest he suggests, but the niche sees the most growth in videos between 1 & 3 hours long.
The purpose of your videos should be to teach, to educate, to bring new information to your people. If you’re an expert, the more information you can put into your videos, the better.
